Family range day. First time shooting in 4 months.

Girlfriend, her two daughters, and the eldest's boyfriend.

Wake up at 0300, pull out rifles, round up 1k rounds of various food for the ladies, range bags, this that and the other. Load up the truck with cases, bags, target stands, make lunch picnic bag. Hit the road at 0530.

Get to the range at 0645. Unload the truck, walk out the targets to 100, 280, 465, 720 yards. Set up the mats, get everyone set up, collect data, figure out firing solutions for everyone (daughters are 8 months since they shot last) refresher course on FFP and recoil. Give the boyyfriend of the Eldest a quick turtorial on shooting through a scope, adjust the rifle for him then get them started on confirming zero.

Now it's near 0800 and I get to finally get behind Roo Roo. Fire first shot, then start to pack up my stuff because it can only go downhill from here.

90% luck, 10% skill on that one. Why tempt fate?

I did something like that the last time i zeroed. 4 shots right where I wanted them nice little cluster. Had 5 in the mag, I just took out the 5th put it back in the ammo holder that's usually I pull anyway. I was good to go. I like taking people shooting but it is almost impossible to get my stuff done when your helping other people

I had the same kind of day two weeks ago. Was shooting paper at 500 and pretty good results. Then the RSO set up a "know your limits" target at 500 the targets went from 2MOA down to .25 MOA. I went 6 for 6. Never took another shot. Packed up the rifle and 20 unfired rounds. Wasn't going to push my luck.

You just described in detail why I shoot alone. (Cue George Thorogood music....). You’re a more patient man than me for sure.
I love the girls, and they're pretty good shots (can all keep sub MOA groups understand holdover) , just frustrating to spoon feed them. They don't shoot enough, or are interested enough to self educate, and to have all 4 of us take a 2 or 3 day class...that's big coin.

Amen to that. The ranges are such a cluster f especially this time of year (dear season). I was at the range Saturday. Shooting my 10/22 at 25 yds. Guy comes in beside me. Scope on a 12 gauge auto. POI 2 feet high. Says he’s bottomed out of elevation. I packed up and left.🙄

Range day always wears me out. Especially with the family. I remember going fishing with my grandfather. All the prep the night before, up early, Drive, drag it all out, great day of fishing and then...clean up. A ton of similarities and usually well worth it in the end.

Nice one! I had a similar experience at a class last weekend. After a break we came back out in 20mph wind and dialed up to 800yrds. Mike made the wind call, I held it, and got a first round hit on a 4” square steel hanger. Half MOA at 800 in wind, I’ll take it!

I have a different perspective, if I coldbore like that I know its going to be a good day, game on.
If my fist shot is meh, well it may be a wasting ammo day lets see how it goes.
