Took the M40 out today for what I hope is my last session of obsessing over what load to load....

    Thinking the load chose itself.....

There is my street cred post for the short term......I dont just talk shit in the Bear Pit, I actually shoot.

    MWS tomorrow.

I'd say so. But what happens if you are +/- .1 grain?

Looks like all impacts are in that lower right quadrant of the two inch circle.

FGMM factory 168 was the most anemic of the 4 loads posting about 2600. The 43.5 was close to 2675 and SD was 7. 43.4 was close to 2670 and the SD was 13 or so, my memory is not exact on those numbers. 43.6 was close to 2690 with an SD 18.

Will try second groups of 5 from same load session at 300 yards.

Nice rifle amigo and from the look of things, she shoots? Reminds of a Sako 85 I had and sold......never should have sold that rifle.? Just something about the aesthetic of a wood stock I love.

It'll shoot for sure. I too am surprised you don't have a wider node. Not that the other groups were bad, but clearly one of these kids is doing his own thing.

Cold shooter to start, You get in your zone, than the barrel heats up a bit, and your light starts to fail as it gets dark at 1630 or so.

    Its all good.

I had the idea of setting this up as a "Hold the mil reticle" gun with the capped turrets and Leupold repro greenie scope. Probably wont shoot it beyond 600 yards. This is one of three of those green scopes I was able to pick up.

    Just a fun gun.

Got one coming in .223 Ill set up the same and thinking of putting one of those green scopes on a Winchester M70, Carlos Hathcock rifle I had posted about a dozen or so posts down from this one.

Those are terrible, terrible groups pmc! Why, every M40 I've ever seen could print at least 4 out of five in one hole:giggle:, with the last one right next to it. That's of course if the shooter is doing his part:devilish::geek:...

For real, that is some nice shooting. I have to say, the last pics of groups you posted from your M40A1 were REALLY outstanding!

What powder are you using pmc? What is the twist of your barrel? And, IIRC, you did have that rifle bedded? Have you considered doing a heavier bedding job, or re-bedding it with a block?
