BANDERA TEXAS - KIX BROOKS

More like 2 1/2 years. If Richie Blackmore wasn't such an *sshole to Die it might not have ever happened.
I have heard from others he was an a-hole. In addition to kind of designing Deep Purple to be a revolving door. And it became one, having different singers. Including duo of Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale for a while, notably on the song "Burn."

Eventually, Blackmore rotated himself out of the limelight and formed his own mistral band, Blackmore's Night, playing mostly medieval music with some rock guitar thrown in. He had a bit more traction with an album he put out with Blackmore's Rainbow with a singer sounding similar to Ronnie James Dio. I have that album and a few Blackmore's Night albums. As well as Deep Purple "made in Japan."

And Deep Purple went on and eventually Ian Gillan rejoined the band, minus that screeching upper range.

Some more stupid trivia stuck in my head.

When Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice had written and were producing "Jesus Christ Superstar," they had a chance to hear a private screening of then new Deep Purple song "Child in Time." Based on that performance, they wanted Ian for the title role. But he could not sign up for the movie or the stage musical because of prior commitments with Deep Purple recordings, performances, and tour schedule.

So, they went the one other choice who could pull it off. A rock drummer from west Texas named Tim Neeley. He referred to himself as a guy who could sing a few high notes. His voice fit the bill, a baritone with falsetto for the tenor parts of the role. As opposed to Carl Anderson who played Judas Iscariot. He was a straight on tenor.

Later, Neeley would play the role in the play and he has enjoyed being identified by that role. He feels, as a christian, this is a good story to pass on.

And, again, around the age of 75, still doing that song.

I just came in from working on the gas tank in the Triumph GT6, updates in the horsepower thread shortly. What else do you listen to in the shop when working on a car from the 1960's, but 1960's music.....truth be told music pretty much died in the late 80's.

But this was the last song on my playlist before coming in, really a pretty powerful song.

What a voice, and singing about something people today that bitch have no clue about.
