I guess it's been a while since I have bought any ammo cans, but I used to get the .30 cal cans for 3/$10. Any good sources for them nowadays that isn't $15 harbor freight junk?

I just bought two of these. It includes 8 cans total.

These are available for less $$.

Here's the actual size of the 30 caliber cans.

Ammo Can Man on Amazon which is fulfilled by either ACM or Sila and qualifies for Prime. It's not super cheap but that's my source. Free shipping is a plus for oversized and moderately heavy order.

Have you checked out any military surplus shops in your area? I was in Hopkinsville, KY yesterday and they have them. They're not cheap tho going for about $12 each. I did get new in the plastic, mil spec AR mags for $10/each. I bought 14.

If I heard the rumor mill correctly, the last idiot in the white house banned reselling them. A few years ago, no shops had them. It seems to be getting better but still expensive. Not sure if that was true but i can believe it.

Have you checked on local gun forums and Craigslist? There are a couple guys that always have them on local forums here in OKC, can usually pick them up for $8 each or so... Speaking of that, I could use another 10 or so...

Go to government liquidators website and bid on a pallet of them at the base closet to you.
You can buy a pallet of them for scrap prices.
The last pallet that I bought was around $100

Been a couple of years but the last time I bid on pallet quantity of cans they sold for retail. As much ammo as been expended by the mil in the last 10 years you'd think they would be selling for pennies per can not several dollars as surplus.

Okay, here's the deal. I can buy that shit from auctions, I'm registered and I've done it before, and I've been thinking about this so I'm glad you bring it up. I just need some help. And cans aren't all I can get either --various size Pelican and Hardigg cases, various size ammo cans, weapon racks and brass to name a few. I saw a pair of PVS 15's on there once, new. For whatever reason, Ft. Lewis hardly ever has any shit for sale; Iv'e been there, I know what they have. Where the fuck does it go? But if I score in Ft. Lewis, I can probably do it all on my own, but may need help with a giant load.

I can get 'em, I can win the auction especially if we're not buying to resell, and we can determine the max we want to pay, but I'm gonna need one (or two) of you to go onto post (gonna have to have ID) and pick it all up and then distribute it. You're probably gonna need a BIG truck or maybe a small trailer. I'm not gonna be fucking around when it comes to quantity or size of the lot. I figure how it'll work is like this:

I win the auction.

I post where it's located.

Someone close by volunteers to pick it up. There is a timeframe it has to be completed by but it can't be done until everything is processed. This is federal govt. here.

Whoever picks it up gets x number of cans or whatever for free. Have to be determined by cost ultimately.

I sell the cans on here, you send me the money. I get a small fee for fucking with it to cover my cans and our guy's cans, but you'll basically pay the actual cost (you'll know the actual cost) and actual shipping plus a known fee --maybe fifty cents, maybe a dollar per can. So that plus whatever they cost.

I forward the shipping to our guy or pay UPS or Fedex myself, whichever is fastest, easiest, smoothest. Our guy ships 'em out. To prevent it from becoming an MOS for our guy, we'll do UPS or Fedex pickups, whichever is cheapest and most convenient, and he can arrange them to suit himself, so if he can only do it one day a week, then that's the day they go out. Or we can form local groups and pay for a courier.

All done by Paypal so it's faster, unless you send Postal MO's or cashier's checks in advance. I'd like to avoid that if possible, but I won't leave anyone out due to their proclivities.

Sound like a plan? I'm dead serious if you guys are. I planned on starting some kind of business like this but can't really pull it off all that well given how far away the auctions usually are. 100rd. .50BMG/5.56 cans go for $12 here and $15 for 200rd. .50BMG/36rd. 40mm. Since these technically ARE my magazines, plus I use 'em for storage, I can go through a lot of these and I don't wanna pay that much. I get a bulk discount, but still. We can do better.

Every auction varies. I saw weapon racks go for a few dollars per in one lot, same auction, different lot sold for a LOT more. I got ~10,000 pieces of BMG brass for $1000 (but shipping on two oil barrels full ain't cheap!). I'd like to get more. It recently changed too so I bet there's people not bothering with it because the emails stopped. May be a perfect time to do it.
