Hey good morning Guys! I'm no newb to the Hide but this is my first post. Anyways...

I had a conversation back in January with Pigman in regards to the ranch he hunts on in South Texas and it turns out its right down the road from where I grew up/where my folks live in Gillett, TX. In our conversation, I told him about a buck my grandpa took back in 1964 on the old Coates Ranch/EL Negro Ranch as was known as through the 90s until it was broken up. Just thought yall would like to see what was walking around on the awesome cattle ranches of South Texas!

If these pictures load in the order they were attached:
Picture 1: My grandpa on the front of the San Antonio Express
Picture 2: That's the bucks shed from the year before.
Picture 3: The buck taken a year later.
Picture 4 and 5: Some bucks my dad and three uncles took. One of them was actually shot at the same time by my dad and his youngest brother!

Man those are some awesome bucks! That one your grandpa shot is just outstanding. I'm really glad to see that for the most part it's a typical buck and not a bred "freak" as I like to call them with horns going all over the place. That's definitely a buck of a lifetime.

I just showed those pictures to my dad and asked if he had ever heard of the Coates ranch. Turns out our property used to be part of the Coates ranch. I can't help but wonder if your grandpa shot that buck on our property.

As the story has been told to me, the buck was seen in the area for a couple years; he was seen across the the rode on Dorthy and Travis Richardsons ranch as well as being seen multiple times close to the headquaters on our ranch as well as other areas. So he very well may have ventured out further just depending how far because Mr. Coates had A LOT of land. The ranch had some land that stretched all the way to Nixon buy I'm not sure if it was where yall are at. Hell, his sheds were found well within a click of the headquarters when driving some cattle through an open field by the only big oak tree in it, one of the cowboys dismounted and picked them up. When my grandpa took him, he was within about 2 clicks of the headquaters. These were the good ol' days, I was born waaaaaay to early.
