Just wondering if anyone has compared the southwest .260 139 scenars against the 142 SMK's? I know every rife is different but I was curious if one was consistently more accurate.. thanks
I used both when I got a new Savage rifle last August. Both grouped at 0.75 to 1" at 100 yards with this out of the box rifle. I was happy with it. I handload now and with 140 gr VLD Bergers and get maybe a little better accuracy.
Price is great (or at least it was when I purchased it.)
The 139 Scenars have always shot well for me. I have not tried their 142's but my loads in 142 shot decent. I prefer to stick with 130 VLD Bergers or 139 Scenars. You have so many options though.
I have shot about 500 of their 139s and found them to be very accurate. They were chronoed @ 2740ish from my 22.5" barrel after break in. I haven't tried the 142s yet, I would imagine they would be very good also.
I've ran a few boxes of each. Southwest produces very tight, consistent ammo and the 2 projectiles are so close in performance that it really does come down to your specific weapon. My throat length was set for the 142s so that's what I shoot, but no discernible difference in performance between the two.
I'm a little late to the party, but I have shot both 142's and 139's. Both grouped right with my loads respectively. The 139's shot a tad bit better in my gun. My loads of 139's also shoot a bit better in my gun. My velocities are 2850 with a 26" tube. SW makes good ammo and is fairly priced.
