Spare equipment?

Hey all, I'm still fairly new both to the hide, and to LR shooting. I've invested pretty heavily in my rifle thus far, and am getting ready to ship the bbl/action off to the Moon for some sweet bartlein lovin. I already know that I won't get the most out of my piece until I start working up custom loads. I figured I would check on here to see if anyone had any used (working) tools or equipment they would be willing to donate to help get me started (this game is expensive!). I'll gladly cover shipping costs (if necessary) if any of you would be nice enough to hook me up with some decent starter bits and pieces. Additionally, to those nice enough, I give you my word that anything "gifted" to me, will be gifted to another newb once I have the funds to buy my own paraphernalia.

By the way, I'd like to give a shoutout to J-ROD, for hooking me up with a Chrono already. Appreciate it man!

lol, most start out with small lower end equipment, I cant say anyone ever Gifted me any gear. But i do have a bit of used equipment laying around that is in good working order.

Reloading equipment? Lee anniversary kit for around a hundred plus dies $30, cutter specific to each caliber $5, shell holder $7. I'm new and that's all I bought to start reloading. Maybe finding an extra used press would work nicely also.

I'm pretty well broke at the present time. Between the XLR and the Bartlein/Action job, my funds are mostly tied up for the next three months. Every spare dollar I've got that isn't going to pay my bills, or my fathers, is going to the previously mentioned. If no one wishes to help out, no big deal, but I've never known any harm to come from asking. As I said in OP, I'm just trying to get my hands of a few items that will hold me over until I can purchase my own. I would love to be able to get some rounds loaded up, and get some experience behind the press before I get my BBL/Action back from Moon, but that can't possibly happen if I end up having to buy everything first.

Maybe it's just the fact that you're a 'new guy' coming in here asking people for free shit during a time when lots of people new to reloading, are pulling their hair out trying to find stuff to buy, but are still making a bona fide effort to hop on the bandwagon and be self-sufficient.

Maybe if you were a regular here and something bad happened and you needed to reload for some competition, I could see it.

The...'hey, I'm getting a new Vette next week, but I don't have any more money for gas, so could you help a brother out?' line is a little much, IMO.

I respect your opinion, as I said, there's no harm in me asking is there? If you want to help out, great, if not no love lost. Maybe it's just my personality, but generally if I see someone asking for help, I generally try to do something for them, regardless of whether they are my best friend, or a complete stranger. Again, please note that in my OP, I simply asked if anyone had any old, unused equipment that they were willing to donate to a worthy cause, I didn't ask for your prized dies or press.

The money is not really an issue typically. But my father just lost his job a month and a half ago, then found out he had skin cancer, then had a heart attack two weeks ago. I'm trying to support myself, and help him out as much as I can, so naturally, the budget is excessively strained. I had planned on having most of this stuff acquired by this point in time, but life tends to get in the way of your plans from time to time.

I'm not badgering anyone to give me free shit. I asked a simple question, so if anyone is feeling generous, I'd be greatly appreciative, if not oh well, my entry to the LR shooting scene will just be delayed that much longer.

Eff'in A! Have you checked out how expensive scrapbooking is?
Ranger, recommend you scour Craigslist and other sites for used reloading equipment. No cash? Patience is a virtue. You have some time while your stick gets some Bartlein lovin'.
Unfortunately there's enough scoundrels before you who have received gifts or bought great values and then turned around to scalp.
Eddie is right - priorities. Spotter is spot-on with his recommendation for a Lee Anniversary kit. It isn't made as well as others, but it sure works.
I just sold off a brand new anniversary kit for $85 because I didn't have room for it on my bench, and I had picked up a used Rock Crusher for $50. No way I would have given it away -- that's 50 pieces of once fired Lapua 338 brass.

In VA, I'm sure you have nearby shooters who may have spare equipment. No cash? Trade or do them favors -- it goes a long way.

Second, things worth having in life will cost you something. Cheap or free gear is usually cheap for a reason. Yes you can save with quality used gear. But the only way to get a corvette is to save and buy one.

Times are tight. Do the best you can with what youve got. When times get better upgrade as you can.

Just my thoughts.

And A lyman trimmer that is practicly brand new that I will sell you for $50 if that would help. I know a few people local to me who have equipment that I could use, and would get me by until I can accumulate my own, but I just cut a 200yd shooting lane through my woods, and it would be so much easier to work up loads when I could shoot, go inside and tweak, then walk back out and shoot again.

That's what I had in mind when I cleared the shooting lane... I ranged it to 190 with my scope, and still have another 20-30 yds to move target back and another 15-20 to move shooting position back.

Of course if you have friends that reload I don't know why you just don't ask them for help with you letting them use their presses as well as teach you the ins and outs of reloading. Lots of good shooting ammo has been loaded using Lee's Loaders, but they're obviously slow. If you have lots of time, then sure.

Hit up pawn shops, yard sales, CraigsList and the 'for sale' sites here, on AR15.com and places like CalGuns.net and see what you can find for cheap. Even an older single stage press will save you a lot of time verses that LL. You can always clean any ratty press up and repaint it, as long as the ram is tight and working fine.

I think of reloading components these days, as necessary items, like toliet paper, toothpaste and food in the fridge--that is to say that you almost 'have' to have them if you intend on continuing in this hobby.

Perhaps no firearm restrictions will take place in the current craziness, but if US follows England's example, they will make it hard to play by restricting access to Ammo. That is much easier to do via agency law (regulations) than any other restrictions.

Maybe my craigslist mojo is pretty low but I don't see much on craigslist for reloading equipment and the stuff I have seen is very old and not worth the price of what they want for it. I will just keep saving as I can. I have never considered asking anyone for donations of equipment or supplies.

I also don't have a 200 yard area cleared out on my property for a range. That was the OP. Maybe you were talking about him and not me. I will keep saving until I can afford some equipment that will get me started. As my financial situation gets better I will be able to get what I need. I never really considered buying something like the Lee Anniversary kits. I was looking at something better quality than that. But that would at least get me started so I will take a look into it.

I've got 12 acres, but what's that got to do with not having extra money for reloading equipment. I'm not here to be flamed, I simply asked if anyone had any old unused equipment. Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm always giving my unused items away to help other people out. Generosity goes a long way, and I think it's a shame to see all the "well no one gave anything" comments. If you don't want to help, fine, just move along, but there's no need to bash me because I asked for assistance.
