Been trying this for a couple years now to get a deer with a hand thrown spear. came close to getting one this morning and thought i would share the video.

Does it have to be hand thrown? Would an atlatl suffice for your goal?

Looks like he thought a branch fell from above.
Have you thought about dropping straight down (ala Rambo)?
Reason I ask is that there was a 6pt directly under my stand this morning. Would cut your distance, and be certainly more up close and personal.
My hat is off to you on this venture! Any deer will be a hard won trophy.

I would have took a closer throw if he gave it to me. Funny thing is he came right under my stand after i missed. I'll close the deal one of these days.

Perhaps you should carry a second spear.

Ive got a second spear but brought a crossbow for backup. Could have easily shot him after the miss but Rather save him for my 11 year old to shoot if i cant get a spear in em.
I've thrown a few times at deer but usually they jump from the sound. Got a lot of the sound issues worked out so hopefully i can get it done. Will be a great story for the grandkids one day.
