Spotters Spotter 60/45

Hey guys just a sanity check here:
I'm looking for a one time purchase for a spotter. I see that alot of people on this forum love the spotter 60/45. Are they still considered the best overall?
I have no one to go shoot with and want a spotter I can attach to my phone to assist with spotting hits and make corrections. I looked at the Swarovski and don't like thier size for transportation. I did find a company that can import the spotter 60 with the h32 reticle, and believe that to be my best option. I have no interest in night vision usage.

I have a Leupold Mk 4 12-40 x 60 w a mil reticle and like it a lot. Yes, you can get a spotting scope w more magnification but w mirage, I’m not sure how much more they buy you.

Beside the mil reticle, I like my Leupold because it’s compact and reasonably lightweight.

I have a Leupold Mk 4 12-40 x 60 w a mil reticle and like it a lot. Yes, you can get a spotting scope w more magnification but w mirage, I’m not sure how much more they buy you.

Beside the mil reticle, I like my Leupold because it’s compact and reasonably lightweight.

Apologies, I was referring to the Hensodlt spotter series. These have been discontinued in the USA, but can be imported with modern reticles.

If you can get a Hensoldt Spotter 60 or 45 then I doubt you'll regret it, in terms of image quality it crushes a Leupold Mk4. That being said, I'd read the fine print on warranty issues because at first blush it seems like if you're having it imported, any warranty service would be a bear.

I love my 60, the glass is like being teleported to the thing you’re observing. Absolutely zero detectable image defects. I have seen the legs of insects at 200+ yards with it. The only real complaints I have about it are 1) it can be difficult to find a good Arca base for it, 2) the reticle choices are limited, and 3) it’s unclear what kind of service one could expect if it broke, and that’s a bit worrisome on a ~$5,000 item. Luckily they have a reputation of being pretty darn tough.

I don't own one but have looked through both a Henny 45 & 60 on a few occasions. They are best there is in many respects. The Swaro binocular eyepiece model may have been as good or better from an optical perspective but the Henny couples unrivaled optical performance with a COMPACT and mil hardened housing for consistent performance in all environments.

That's comparing it to Swaro Z6 scopes, NL binos, & STX spotters, TT & ZCO scopes...

Henny resolution and optics are slightly better than NF/Vortex, but not by much.......really splitting hairs, maybe not by your eyes.....in optics, beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.......maybe just a "want it to be better cause what it cost" syndrome. If you are going to use the Henny in the real world, consider the lack of warranty from Hensoldt.......German for SHIT. If this is a buy once, cry once, hopefully happy ever after purchase for you, consider the warranty. If you ever break the Henny, you'll cry ever after. (Check another thread on here where a guy broke his Henny.) Basically, you will be out the purchase price. That will make the NF, and especially the No Questions Vortex, warranties make their glass look magnificent. I got the Henny 60 for "free"....proving there are no free lunches.....with my Barrett MRAD MK-22 Deployment Kit, but pricing everything by piece, still paid full $4330 full tilt for the Henny, accessories are expensive too. Had used friends' Hennys several times, and would never have bought the Henny as a standalone purchase due to price/performance/warranty......German arrogance, lack of service.....didn't even come in a retail package with Hensoldt on it.....just the canvas carry pouch. If one buys a Henny, it is probably a status symbol for them. YMMV. Spend time actually looking through all mentioned scopes before plunking your money down. The more the purchase price brings tears to your eyes, the more you should consider the warranty. If buying the Henny doesn't smart your eyes the first purchase, or the second time, go ahead. If you buy the Henny, (or Bushnell Tactical or Leupold MK4/M151/Gold Ring spotters also) be sure to buy the protective case offered by Triad Tactical @ $74-$84.......might avoid that cry forever event.

Yes I bought a Henny and I'm very happy with it. I'm sorry that you feel so poorly about it. It's a great spotter and I couldn't be happier.

Yes, the Harpia is a completely different design and is not marketed as a military optic. To clarify my inference is that the Harpia is the next generation in optical design and improvement. The Harpia has better field of view, image quality and color correctness vs. the Spotter 45 or 60.

I have a Spotter 60 in a SLICK-H. Have a Swaro BTX-95 mm (ATX and 65 mm lens as well). I love Swaro glass. The image on the Spotter 60 is ever bit as good if not better. I’ve spotted Dahl sheep at over 4 miles with it in the Yukon Territory. If you want a one spotter buy, I recommend the Spotter 60.

Hensoldt 60 w/ Tremor or H32 would be a really great choice, if you can get one of those Tremor or H32 reticles in it instead of the Mil Dot?

I’ve had both 60/45 and settled with the 45 because of the H32. Back then you could only get the 60 with a 90* Mil Dot reticle (I didn’t like it as much as the H32, not as versatile and user friendly) and the 45 had the H32 reticle…even though I’d heard of a few 60’s and 45’s with Tremor and/or 60’s with H32’s, I knew one guy with that holy grail unicorn version. He always got the unusual unicorns. (You know who you are). I wish they had additional “Objective” screw in magnifier’s on the Hensoldt’s…dang that would have been perfect.

Either is a great/fantastic scope…I also have the Swaro STR/Illuminated reticle Spotter as well and I love them both just about equally. However. I wouldn’t down any of the other ones mentioned above however. All those are outstanding choice scopes…Hell, we’re all lucky to be able to afford any of these cool optics…if you can justify the swing to shell. I do think the Hensoldt’s have a more robust protective armor on them, more durable probably, at least, I hope?

I hope you find one, or something you’re ultimately happy with...you won’t regret it! That’s for sure…I’d bet you find and get one eventually! My money is on you! However, for sure, the Tremor or H32 is a must. Whatever you choose!

RRS makes some great configuration kit too for Spotter setups once you figure out all the crazy little detailed intricacies of parts required to set everything up with what exactly to dial them in with, parts wise…that was the hard part…drove myself nuts with that, until finally was happy with the outcome to do everything at once, on one solid device.

I already have a 60 w the Horus and a RRS tripod I’m just wanting a 2nd one for shooting in groups or with buddies. I asked cus I know that it be difficult for me to use anything less with how amazing they are just not sure anything else would be satisfying! I appreciate the link to hendsoldt directly I’ll have to check that out, euro optic has told me they’re gone for good but maybe the source will say otherwise.

I did use some Spuhr rails too…Look at those and somebody on here made good quality, well priced rails that were awesome, see if you can find “Hensoldt Rails” in a search? They were perfect…But if you go SLICK-H, you won’t need them…that additional protective Cateye thing was the bomb!
