I've seen some Fclass guys do something similar with their rifle scopes. Put a cover over the objective with a small slit in it.

That’s to cut out sun glare and it helps on mirage with hot barrels a bit different
I thought about taking a picture of mine last time at the range. I started laughing when I realizing I had a $180 spotting scope on a $600+ tripod.

New to this forum but here is my spotter setup.
Took some RRS Cinema Rails and end clamps to make an erector set. Works pretty well with side mount gimbal. Gonna try an Arca Swiss D4 geared head tomorrow as well.
The BTX being angled and a bino (so you can't turn it on its side like a normal angled spotter) is a challenge to use alongside other optics. So you have to keep them quite a bit above the BTX in order to use them at the same time.

Looks highly impractical and uncomfortable to use at best. Not cool
Will likely just use it with a similar variation and the Vector 21 sitting directly over it. Just so there's a lower than 30/35x optic for finding targets fast since the BTX isn't variable magnification.
The good news is that a lot of RRS and Arca Swiss products are built for much heavier setups in film and photography industry. So it moves and balances without any issues.
Man, these are some nice setups. I was to do something similar. Right now I’m just working with one of the few USO 15-40s that actually came out decent mounted to my Slik 700 camera tripod and a vortex ranger 1800 handheld.
You'll find it hard to have a "perfect" setup unless you're running multiple pieces of glass. It's always something. Mediocre glass, mediocre reticle....etc.
Waiting for one of the new NF Spotters. Since it has a reticle and goes down to 6x, it should be a nice companion to the BTX 65 or 95.
True. There will always be something. I wouldn’t mind picking up the bushnell match pro binos or splurging for geovids, but I really need to get something to combine everything like some folks here have. I was running a set of binos handheld and LRF handheld with the spotter on a tripod in the field. It became a real pain more often than not.
As many plates and contraptions as I have, a lot of times I just end up using one piece of glass at a time on tripod and swapping them out. But I think have the option to put a few things on a plate or rail is good to have in your pack.

Added an Impact4000 to my Mark 4. The parallel zero for the range finder worked out to line up with the first mil-dot above center crosshair. Its been working great like this!
Just like a camera lens. Smaller aperture lets in less light, but you gain focus depth.
Well I was able to get the last few pieces together and the full moon tonight was prime for the PVS30 done up by @Surgeon_Shooter

Just set this up and it’s still a work in progress. Eventually I would like to mount an extension pole with an ultrasonic wind meter on it as well. I eventually need to get a better tripod also.
Neat. I like the Bushnell T-Series but I wish the reticle marks had numbers. I don't use the reticle often but I did try to time a mover with it and I found it difficult to see exactly how many hash marks it moved.
Instead of adding a full on red dot has anyone tried using some sort of low profile picatinny mounted pistol or ghost ring type sights on their spotter rail? I find a red dot works well but adds a bit of bulk, cost, and the need for batteries but I would still like something better than just looking down the length of the rail. Even a picatinny rail with a V notch cut down the middle to make a gutter sight would be handy.

I don’t mind it not having numbers so much with that design of reticle. I do wish it was maybe offset instead of centered, and wish it had 1/10 mil hashes at the edges rather than 2/10 but honestly I don’t range much with a reticle anymore anyway, and 2/10’s isn’t bad to work with by any means, but the finer capability would be nice to have.
On the sights I suppose an iron sight would work but personally I like the red dot and don’t mind the bulk of it at this time. I suppose if you were going to use an iron sight you could just as easily sight across the top edge of the body and get pretty close as well. I do recall seeing a front and rear sight setup on a bar that attaches via picatinny rail that might work well but can’t remember who makes it.
I just wish it came with something this. Actually I wish all spotting scopes had something like this.

Right. That would be a good addition. And yes, I only really got a spotting scope with a reticle for two reasons. One is that I’m always taking new shooters out or helping coach someone and in that instance it’s beneficial to be able to give corrections. Also I have been trying to get back to being less reliant on electronic devices and want to practice milling targets more (more or less just to have something to do really), and living across from a school getting out my rifle to do so would not be a good idea.
I pretty much do the same on Quantico's Range 4 (1,000yds) calling shots for the long range wannabes. A straight / angled spotter gave me eye fatigue after being on the spotter for hours, so I moved to 15x binos, but older eyes still need more X to see where a shot impacts on steel at 1,000.
I looked through a friend's Leupold Mark 4 spotter, an older model with the simple Mil hash and loved it; great field of view, more magnification and good light transmission, but the $1700+ price tag was just too high.
I received my Bushy Tac Ops last week and while it may not be the best glass, I like the FoV, the ability to change power and focus the glass and reticle all on the same stem. I think for the money, and what I'm doing on R4, it's a great value. Now I just need to settle on the MUB DOS configuration and decide if I need a cover.
