Just set up a new rifle, i'm running a Spuhr SP-4001 with a Gen 2 Vortex HD - it's mounted on a Defiance Deviant and the height of the mount makes it so that the scope's objective clears the barrel by about 3/8" which seems to be just about right?

The problem is with or without a throw lever on the magnification ring of the scope, with my cheek on the chassis/cheek rest I can't see the bubble level (mag ring gets in the way). It works fine on the bench or prone when I have time but it's hard to pick up changing positions and changing level quickly off a bag/barricade, etc.

I suppose I could change out to a higher scope mount to create some clearance. Would it be easier to just add an external bubble level? Can ya'll recommend one that would mount to the spuhr mount somehow? Or just use a scope tube mounted level?

Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a new shooter so i'm not really sure yet. Do you veteran shooters usually eye the bubble after building a position or only worry about it on longer shots or if you have cant issues?

As a long range hunter, I have gotten into the habit of checking the bubble before each shot so I assumed that's how it worked.

I found on my application that I also could not see the level in the Spuhr mount so I add a Knights Armament Anti-Cant Device. I don't know if you have the room but there are other options out there. I also have a bubble in the scope but sometimes it is difficult to see.

In answer to your other question, I go through a system of steps every time prior to sending it, whether it is 100 or 1000 yards so that it is habit. Basically I preload my bipod, check my level, get my breathing right and send it.
