I finally bought a rifle and a scope, now I need to mate the two together. I was about to order a SPURE mount but then I realized there are about 2.8 million to choose from. They range anywhere from 1" to 1.89" and 0 MOA to 20.6 MOA. The rifle is a Tikka T3X TAC A1 in 6.5 CM and the scope is a Vortex Razor Gen2 4.5-27x56. What mount would work best with this setup? I don't think I'll be shooting much over 800yds so I don't know if a 20 MOA would be necessary since I was told a 34mm tube would have enough adjustment. But is there a down side to having a 20 MOA mount incase I'd ever go past 1000? Mounts for AR's are easy, 1.5" works with about every scope made but I'm not sure what height would work best with the Tikka. I'd like to stick with a one peace mount and they run around $400 so before I buy one I'd like to make sure I order the right one. Any help would be welcome.

Pricey mount for someone that doesn't quite know their needs yet. Don't take that wrong, typed dialogue is difficult. Just saying, perhaps use some rings, less expensive, till you know what height and cant you need. Height is very subjective. Most folks say go low as possible, but I think that's not always best. Your physique, rifle/optic, and intended usage should be factored in. I would look into ARC M10 rings for comparison if nothing else. Great design, clamshell, one screw up top, easy to install properly, and hold very well, all for $180. I have used three sets this year on PRS rigs. Highly recommend.
Just food for thought man. It's easy to see by looking in the for sale forum many guys buy wrong Spuhr mount, several for sale now, many are new. They're great mounts, but you need to know what you need up front. My impression is you might cultivate that answer more fully with the benefit of more time with your new rifle.

I see what your saying. I'm a firm believer in buy once cry once, but maybe this isn't the best application for that thought train. I'll look into the ARC. Thanks.

As Dan said height is a little subjective based on your build and preferences. This should give you absolute minimum though. For the cant I would at least mount that scope with 20 moa either in the base or with a mount. It won't affect the fov or image quality and will give you a little extra to disk if needed. There are a ton of options with spuhr as you said but they have a good break down of what the members mean on their site. You'll probably end up with a 4601 would be my guess if you want the 20 moa or a 4001 if not.

The Tac-A1 is a full rail chassis if I remember correctly. Likely need a 1.5 since it’s similar to an AR rail.

I have a Spuhr SP 4016 in very nice shape with box and level that I am not using. I haven’t put it up for sale in the PX yet. PM me if interested

You could likely get away with zero cant at all, but it wouldn't hurt to have 20moa built in to the mount so you're not limited if you expand your range capability in the future. As another input, sometimes you can get too much. For instance, my rifle already had a 20moa base, and I really wanted a RRS unimount. The only one they had was a 20moa one, so that's what I got. With the lighter bullets I am at the bottom limit of mechanical travel in my scope. I have to leave my 100 yard "zero" 1.5" high and put it into the zero offset in my calculator. No big deal, but something to remember.

Spuhr is often touted as the very best and they are very nice, but it's not like there aren't other more affordable options out there that do just as good a job holding a scope solid on the top of your rifle. You are paying for some extra features that you may not necessarily need. For instance, as I mentioned I have a RRS uniblock. I actually prefer it to Spuhr and it's cheaper. A Badger or Nightforce unimount is just as solid, and even cheaper still.

I won a MPA mount at a Guardian match. It is well made and solid. Glad I won it. Take a look. Costs than the SPUHR. A bunch of top level PRS shooters use them. That should tell you something.

Call and ask for help at Eurooptic, they sell that model of the Tikka and also Spuhr mounts and can match it up for you with your objective size. If you purchase new I can't see any reason not to obtain the 20 MOA base. If you decide to look for used (once you find the right height and match for the Vortex) then you could probably live with 0 MOA (with a good deal) with your intended use and useable elevation in your RAZOR.

That's a good solid setup you've got going. The Spuhr mount you want is a Sp-4602. It is a 20 moa mount. Your Tikka has a zero moa rail. You will have plenty of room on the scope to adjust to zero at 100 yards. The height of the mount is just enough to clear scope caps. The cheek rest on your stock will line you up very nicely behind the scope. See picture for the exact setup you are considering except that is a K525i on the rifle.
Black lab never mentiond that he wants to mount stuff to his scope. He did say that he would consider ARC rings which clearly do not have the ability to mount anything to them. So that is why I suggested the MPA's.

Besides the mounting capabilities, the angle in which the spuhr are cut/designed gives you a more unobstructed view of your turrets while you’re on the gun.
I’ve run mpa, and currently run ARC. But I will he going back to spuhr because of the view. Both the ARC and mpa obstruct my view slightly.
Good to know. I have a NF ATACR. The elevation turret is tall. My view is unobstructed with the MPA.
