Spuhr SICS , Nicer than I expected....

Decided to try the Spuhr chassis system for my Tikka project. Posting my initial thoughts prior to dropping in the Tikka/Bartlein Mod400bb barreled action from Southern Precision Rifles (Bug holes). This one is a fluted18" in 6.5 Creedmoor for general purpose shenanigans. Hog , steel , whatever out to 800'ish max.

The Spuhr is of excellent quality. It just ooozes precision in its build. The hinge, lockup , LOP quick adjust is vault like solid.

I have to admit , the looks never did it for me , but oddly enough a simple grip upgrade changed my perception. Its very comfortable to get behind with a small Tab Gear squeeze bag. Looking forward to going hot. Will keep you informed.

I ordered one during Mile High’s Christmas sale for a Remington 700 SA in 7.62. Always wanted to try a chassis system for my m24 clone which would take nv/thermal clip-ons. It’s currently sitting in Terrebonne, Oregon waiting for me to bring it back to Alaska. I was traveling when I ordered it and had it sent to my ammo depot (in-laws). Hard to source quality/exotic ammo in Alaska and Hawaii.
Anyways, can hardly wait to try it out.

Ronin - You're not going to be disappointed. I highly recommend the Ergo vertical grip upgrade. Looks aside - the added palm swell and rubberized texture add more surface area for repeatability. Its worth the coin.

Also worth mentioning is the excellent factory de-burring job Spuhr did on this. The Handguard feels fantastic. Zero sharp edges . The barricade support is properly knurled for grip.

Dropped in the barreled action and went with my LRHSi until the 4-20 ZCO fund matures . Unfortunately the Anarchy Outdoors swept bolt handle keeps the folder from .....ah ... folding . . So looking for a "semi swept" alternate.

Really liking everything so far. Could use a cheek weld cushion. Anyone have a suggestion to get one ? Looking towards an adhesive design....

When I had an M1A1 stock that I wanted to make more comfortable during Alaskan winters I went to a scuba shop and bought a small square of neoprene in 5 mm thickness. Worked well for me.

Looking good. The 420 will be a world of difference on that chassis. It should land in the dip in the frame. I love the Ergo deluxe grips and especially the straight on bolt guns. The palm swell makes the perfect thumb rest. I like Accutac BR4 G2 bipod. It’ll be a lot more stable than your current set up. I realize it all takes $$$.

FYI - Anarchy Outdoors swept bolt handle WILL NOT allow the stock to fold. Added a straight titanium handle from Lumley Arms with the Anarchy Dragonscale knob and its a perfect fit. This combo clears - perfectly center of the relief cut in the stock.

Leverage of the combo feels just right. Bolt manipulation is also just right for my medium hands.

I place my thumb right in the center "thumb up" style between the stock and the hinge. Feels very natural. Your thumb would land directly in line and below the action. I'll post a picture tonight.

Sorry to resurrect an older thread, finally got my chassis in my hands and dropped my 7.62 barreled action in it. Leupold Mk4 10x M3 scope with just some GGG rings I had lying around. I think I’m going to like this. Action was originally in a McMillian fiberglass stock.

Once I got over the "non standard" styling of the SICS and focused on how it actually performed in the field , I quickly understood Spuhrs design philosophy. IMO, this chassis is excellent. It ooozes functionality and quality.

I found being forced into a completely vertical thumb position didnt feel super natural for me, it was one of the main reasons I didnt keep the SICS. Definitely machined to a very high standard though.

Never. I’ve stuck w 12 round MDT mags (no binder plate) w no issues over 600 rounds.

I am trying Magpul in 5 & 10 rounds. I have only put 100 rounds of Black Hills 175 gr. Match through them. So far, no issues.
