There's an older one (2001 production) for sale here on the Hide.

I decided that I'm either going to go big or go home (~$3000).

I am looking at this rifle as half range toy/half investment. Will I be at a loss if I were to buy this rifle? Larue OBRs are also around the same price IF you can find one. Used ones seem to go for about $3000 and new a few hundred more.

Basically, this rifle will be bought and used to shoot prone or at the bench from 100-500 yards 95% of the time. There may be a chance I will use it in a long range or 3-gun match here and there mostly for fun.

Also, the SR-25 Match Rifle listed here has a RAS installed as opposed to the carbon fiber FF. Since it has already been modified from its original form (probably a more desirable feature), would cutting the barrel down to 20" or even 16" hurt the resale value?

Is $3k a fair price? I'm already hurting if I have to pay this much but you know how that goes... Buy once, cry once.

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

I have had quite a few AR type rifles including SR-25's. Dispite what the local KAC oracle says, they just do not cut it. I would say 1MOA on a GOOD day. Also, I have never seen a good explination of why so expensive? Just some verbage about goverment contracts etc.

I really do not suggest you get one if accuracy is your interest. Get a Les Baer if accuracy is paramount. Get a GAP or OBR if you do not care for the Baer. If you want reliability and fair accuracy, get an M1A. JMO

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

I have seen them from $2800 on up, depends on condition and model. You could look at many firearms as "investments" but I wouldnt. Knight's Armament seem to hold their used resale value fairly well and you should be able to fetch close to or what you paid, but modifying it could effect its value.

Great rifle and great piece to have in your collection, as far as being a great investment, not sure about what the future brings there.

Sorry but that is just factually inaccurate.

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

The SR-25 is a shooter, my second favorite gasser. It is reliable and a rifle I would choose over many if the world comes to an end.

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

Buying a firearm as an investment, especially a model that is still in production, is a risky proposition at best. I purchased an AI AW 3-4 years ago, not as an investment, but because I decided I wanted one and always read on this website that if you purchase an AI and then decide to sell you will always be able to recoup all or most of your investment. I never fired the rifle and when I tried to sell it I lost my ass....worst loss I've ever had on a firearm. So much for a sure thing.

If you want the SR-25 because it seems like the rifle for you that's a legitimate reason to consider it....but as an investment , whether you modify it or not, you will probably be disappointed.

You lost your ass on an AW?

Likewise, the SR25s are good guns. I have no experience with the Older Matches, but the new production guns are nice

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

That's the thing. The older ones are not as functional as the new ones but have a level of collectability. The new ones are far more functional IMO but I am guaranteed to lose money on buying a new one if I sell it down the road. Of course, unless a couple things occur: Another AWB or another huge contract that forces KAC to halt civilian sales.

Re: SR-25 Match Rifle

That rifle is 100% as it came from the factory. I don't know if they didn't make many of that model with the quad rail, all I know is they made mine that way.
