SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

I'm playing this 'scope shell game' here, and trying to figure out if it warrants a purchase. I was planning on putting my SS 3-9X on this CZ, but I'm becoming smitten with the idea that the 10X HD would work really well. If I went that route, I could put the 3-9X on my hunting rifle.

I'm planning on using the CZ for mostly 50-100yds...and up to 200 when I can.

What do you think? Overkill? Use the 3-9x? the 'right' purchase?

I'm also a little afraid SWFA is going to come out with new models right after I bought the 10X. They already did with my 3-9x and had to trade my old one back in for the new reticle!

Re: SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

I have one ready to put on my trainer now. Have been playing swap a scope - trying out stuff to see what I like on it. I have a 5-20 on one of my centerfire rifles, so 10X HD with mil quad makes some sense. Will see how it fares.... I do like good clear glass, and for the price they are pretty nice. 3-9 is also a nice scope though. I have had some variables, but for my purposes on my trainer, they never really left the 8-12X range anyhow. I see no use on my particular gun for needing to go down to 3, or 4, or 5X. But if that is something you see yourself doing, 3-9 may be a better scope for you. I wouldn't worry about overkill. I seriously considered an S&B for this gun, and may still end up with one down the road if the moood strikes me. Pick what meets your needs and budget.

Wait for the mil-adjusted versions to become available. That's what I'm doing. (as in, 10x, 12x, 16x...and with ret options)

And you'll have more pocket change to spend on ammo/trigger time.

Re: SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

Just ordered the Mil-quad 16x for my CZ452. Mil/Mil and the reticle is hashed out to 10mils which is perfect for shooting holdovers out past 200 yards. I had been swapping my 5-20x50HD around so getting the 16x will be less zero changes.

All the new ones are up for preorder now.

Re: SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

That announcement the other day by SWFA really has been messing with my program (but in a good way). That 12x sounds like a good fit, but damnit...that 10XHD looks like a strong win too.

Decisions!

Thanks for all the feedback thus far. The good part is that with these SWFA scopes....you really can't lose.

Re: SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

Why not get the cheaper SS model for the .22? I've got the 10x on my CZ and it works great at those ranges. The HD is overkill, in my opinion. I could get a Sightron variable for that kind of money.

Re: SS 10X HD overkill for my new CZ455?

I always though mounting a cheap scope was the way to go on a .22 (had my $35 bushnell sportview on mine for years). Recently though I did a whole upgrade to my Ruger (tacsol barrel, hogue stock, volquartsen trigger, 10moa scope mount). I decided to put a Pentax Pioneed 4-14 scope on it, certainly not a high dollar scope, but was a few hundred. I'm very happy I went with higher quality, makes shooting it more enjoyable.

SWFA 16 SS on my Kimber. Whacks 1/2 scale silhouettes out to 200 meters no problem. Picked a 10x here couple days ago for the wife's TRR. It's in right now
W for a "girl" paint job! White, purple w black accent. I'll post pics on this thing when done!

They just announced their going to release new mil/mil versions of their whole fixed power line of scopes. No definite release date yet, but they're already available for preorder at SWFA. There's a thread discussing them in the optics forum.

SS mil/mil

I was thinking of saving for the 10x HD so I could upgrade the bushy 10x mil/mil on my savage, now I'm trying to decide if I should get the 6x, 10x, or the new 12x.
