I own a Savage Model 10 FCP, purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods, that came with the detachable mag. I have recently replaced the factory stock with a Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical/Varmint stock. Love the B&C but had to go with a blind magazine setup since they (B&C) don't fab stocks for Savage that allow the use of the detach mag. SSS and CDI both make detach mag kits and will inlet my B&C stock for their kits. I have seen photos of the CDI kit installed/inletted on the B&C stock but have not seen photos of the SSS kit installed on the B&C stock. Does anyone have photos of the Sharp Shooters Supply detach mag kit installed on a B&C Medalist Tactical/Varmint stock made for a Savage Model 10 FCP? The gun in chambered in .308 with 4.4" bolt center. Thanks for your help.

SSS has been getting bad reviews around here for bad customer service and long wait times. As far as bottom metal goes I'd say the inlet will be about the same recess for both, since they have to fit and function with the action. They won't fit flush with the bottom lines of your stock. That being said I'd buy the CDI system. They use available AIC mags that many Hide vendors sell. I bet you could send it to CDI and have your gun and within 2 weeks.

I went with CDI as they are a known quantity, the quality is outstanding and as Jeff's shop is a scant hour's drive from Tampa, I got to watch him do the work and enjoyed a fine cigar while I waited!
His fix for the new Savage bolt release is brilliant as well!

SSS stated they inlet stocks about once a month, depending on requests. CDI stated they could get the stock in within a week. I don't know what make magazines SSS uses. I agree both would require approx the same amount of inletting but the SSS kit uses the new mag metal with existing trigger guard (two pieces maybe less inletting and less of a noticable offset from stock to metal). The CDI is a one piece unit (trigger guard attached) which makes the step down from stock to metal more noticable. I do think with a little sanding the B&C stock could be brought down to be flush with either configuration. Both SSS and CDI were very responsive to my email. New to this site and appreciate your input.

the SSS ACME system is supposed to fit the factory inlet for the savage DBM in factory stocks. they make one just for the choate ultimate sniper stock i believe?? or is it the tactical?? CDI will fit in the same factory inlet, just sitting below the stock in most cases. the SSS system, i cant tell if the thickness or tallness of the stock is going to affect the way the DBM sits as its what holds the mag. will it be holding the mag too far away from the bolt to strip a round and feed it? or can you adjust seating depth of the mag? is the SSS only for factory profile stocks? we did have a guy sell his SSS system and choate tactical. you could see if he sold his yet.

Kevin Rayhill at Stockade has one he designed also, but he hasn't even posted pics of it on his site and I don't know anyone who has even seen it...
all these thing made me decide that I'm calling Jeff at CDI when I get ready to build my 7mm-08/Manners Savage ... hopefully in the next couple of months.

You are correct both systems were originally designed as a 'drop in modification' for Savage compatible stocks (B&C, Choate, etc) already inletted for the DBM. However, both SSS and CDI stated they can and have inletted blind magazine stocks (the B&C tactical for Savage in particular) to accept their DBM system. Due to the B&C Savage stock's depth, at the magazine, both systems once installed will result with the DBM metal being recessed below the bottom face of the stock. Just an aesthetic issue really, but I like a rifle will good clean lines. Again the stock bottom could be resufaced (sanded down) so that the stock and DBM metal would be flush. If I can figure out how to attach photos I'll send the pic CDI provided of their system installed on a Savage compatible B&C Tactical stock showing the inset.

If it's going to come down to fit or function, I would take function hands down every time. Plus like Axeman said I remember the guy selling his Wyatt set up and it took him awhile to sell and I think he took a good beating. Now with a CDI DBM if you decided to go that route with your B&C and later decided to sell it for something different. It would sell in less than an hour if you priced it reasonable. Plus who cares what it looks like upside down.

That's a fact Tim. It is positioned much like the Remington bolt release, at the ceiling of the trigger guard, but you draw it backward rather than push it up. Works great and is very clever.
