If I hadn't seen any other Star Wars films I'd give it 2/4. They should've just taken that budget and made some random action film instead of labeling it Star Wars.

And I totally agree with this. Amazing to see him as his 'elder' self. The funny thing is that I was 12 when Star Wars came out... Mark Hamill was 25 when it was filmed... Born 1951. He is 13 years older than me.
Seeing how he has aged was interesting... because on one hand, he was almost un-recognizeable. On the other hand, he had sort of not aged badly! Rugged, mountain-man look... I know, makeup. Heck, the guy is 66 or so... collecting Social Security... but he was still Luke Skywalker. Bad actor and all. But bad acting is still, well, being Mark Hamill!
Again, I was entertained as all Hell by this movie. Was it the greatest movie in history? Meh... maybe not. But I was happy to spend money on it and my buddy and I enjoyed it completely.

Lucas wanted a sequel early on and commissioned Alan Dean Foster to write "Splinter of the Minds Eye" before the original became such a rousing success. His instructions were to leave out most of the main characters as he was not sure they would do a sequel.
I enjoyed The Last Jedi. I didn't care for the portrayal of Luke, which Hamill was not pleased with either.
This is definitely a "passing of the torch" movie.
I was also disappointed in the way they handled Snoke.

Let me put on my nerd glasses. General Hux didn’t use clones in his Army. This was seen when Kylo Ren told General Hux that clones would be better than his troops (after Finn betrayed the First Order). Some of the First Order troops volunteered, while others were kidnapped and forced to serve.

I despised this film and I despise all the articles that the media is pushing about how I'm supposed to think it was great and wonderful and magical. The cast sucks, the dialog sucks, the most interesting character was Mark Hamill. Now they're pushing some BS about how the whiny emo faggot is a better bad guy than Darth Vader. Fucking Hollywood + Disney.
Just saw it today and can't add anything else. What could have been a good film they kept veering off into the stupid that it brought the whole film down to the level of the prequels. The Force awakens wasn't bad, Rogue One was very good but this was a waste.
Since it is available for streaming now, I thought I would revisit this thread.
When I first saw it, I was thinking "It's okay", but the more I thought about it and recalled the original trilogy fondly, even though ROTJ was a bit weak and only interested in selling stuffed animals, that is when my real disappointment in TLJ began to set in and actually foster some hate.
Basically, according to the movie, all men are stupid, only women can make rational decisions and Luke Skywalker is not only a dinosaur, but a cowardly one.
It was so bad, it made the prequels look good. They were so desperate to be "inclusive" they killed off the good looking asian and left her fat sister in the movie as an unrequited love interest.
The whole SJW direction of the movie has convinced me not to see the next one in the theater unless they make serious changes and bring back the real Luke Skywalker.
I have no problem with a lead female character, I thought Rogue One was a very good movie.

If you decide you enjoy the femi-nazi themes, the destruction of Star Wars canon and the destruction of the Luke Skywalker character, then you can buy it.

HOWEVER........i cannot get over the whole Leah flying through space bit......or Lukes 3D projection BS.
they took the same stale story, wrapped it up with some admittedly good cinematography....and sprinkled in some BS and called it new.
Rogue one wasnt half bad.......waiting to see about the new Han movie......not terribly optimistic........after what theyve already done to destroy the Han character, im sure his movie will be a shit show.

I agree, the cinematography was good, the CGI, for the most part was VERY well done.
I really hated the way it went against the entire character of Luke Skywalker, let alone the anti-meat eating dig, the stupid sub-plot with Rose and Finn that did NOTHING in regards to the story line and the whole feminism bent.
Rogue One was very enjoyable. Felicity Jones is smoking hot.
