If you're getting started into long range shooting I'd get a Remington 700 in .308 and go from there. I don't know for certain what they sell "from the factory" today, haven't looked, but I know there are a number or heavy barreled versions that can get you started.
From there everyone makes stuff to fit it, from drop in stock upgrades to bottom metal and box mags, and if you want to get it worked on every gunsmith in the country works on them.
