Sold my old rifle to build a few new ones for my son and I (When he gets back from South Korea).

Remington 700 trued
Remington 700 bolt
Cerakoted in FDE
18" Shilen Select match, #7 countour, chambered in .308, threaded for suppressor
Timney trigger
Holland recoil lug
Manners T4 (DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL TO WHOEVER BOUGHT THE LAST FOLDER FROM MANNERS! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!)
PTG bottom metal
IOR Valdada 3-18x42

I started with a bone stock, Sportsmans Warehouse special, Remington 700 ADL in 243 and cheesy 3-9 scope. Ripped it all apart today. Trued the receiver and bolt.

90% done

Got the following accomplished:
Barrel chambered
Tenon cut and thread
New recoil lug
Barrel contoured
Bolt knob installed
Threaded barrel
Scope base installed
Scope mounted
Stock barrel channel fitted
Bottom metal installed (PTG M5)
Timney 510 installed

This project is 90% finished. Going to shoot it today and tomorrow to work out any possible kinks/issues before I ceracoat it next week. I may likely flute the barrel depending on how it feels this weekend.

Lets see, specs:

Shilen Select Match 1:10 finished at 20"
Chambered in 308
Remington 700 action trued
Remington 700 bolt trued
Manners T4 stock
PTG M5 bottom metal
IOR 3-18x42 FFP
Leupold MK4 rings
Grim Reaper Tactical bolt knob
Grim Reaper Tactical 20MOA base
Timney 510 set at 3.5 pounds
ACI and ACI mount
Templar Tactical ARK 30 suppressor
Tab Gear Sling

Think that about covers it for now. Need to swab the barrel and hit the range. Still not 100% on a 20" barrel. I am seriously considering cutting back to 18"...will see how she runs, may leave it alone.

I'm curious why would you true the front of the bolt lugs ? The rear interact with the receiver.

You son is a lucky man. What makes it so special is that you did the work yourself. That in itself makes it an instant heirloom. You should laser inscribe your last name on the receiver. Is the cat out of the bag, or is he unaware of the project? I prefer the looks of that stock vs a folder. I think folders look ridiculous. If you want a shorter rifle, get a DTA.

Well, got out to the range with it today. First rifle I have ever built from the ground up... needless to say, I was more than a little nervous.

My fears were totally unfounded when I shot the first group. I cover 5 shot group with a dime. All this with FGMM 175.

My boy does not know at this time. Find test the waters with a rifle I built his brother (who is joining the Army in October). See what he says about it.

As for truing the front of the lugs, I want everything absolutely straight. Same tolerances for the barrel tenon for all the way around. It takes so little time one it is all set up, why leave anything to change. I want a tight, consistent, reliable, accurate rifle.

This rifle is to be the template for a custom series we are going to offer. Not sure what the lead time will be, nor the cost due to the current market trends for supplies.

I am very impressed with the fit and feel if the rifle as a whole. Going to let a couple guys that know rifles have a run with it.

Thank you for the kind words everyone.

Well, as it turns out, he wants something a little different. He has set his sights on a 6.5 creedmoor. Good thing I have another action. Is all good, I will just use this one for work.

Shot a short match today with it. Man, I REALLY need to get my chrono fixed and find out my velocity. But, everything functioned, and that is half the battle.

I only ended up with one miss out of 50 (out to 500 yards), so I am not terribly disappointed in my performance.
