First off, if this is somehow in the wrong place, my apologies. Mods, please move elsewhere if appropriate. Thanks.

Beginning to study suppressors for my Tikka Super Varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor. Range gun. Is there such a thing as a suppressor, I suppose .30 cal, in a $ range of 500 to 700 or so that someone could recommend? I’m a real neophyte at this and it seems really complicated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I shopped in that price range and I went with a silencerco omega and I have an otter creek polonium (you would get the polonium30). Both seem very close to one another in performance, with my ears and swapping them back and forth it was a toss up in noise and recoil mitigation on a 223, 22 creed and 6 dasher.

I invested in the area 419 mounting system, I can put a 419 universal adaptor on each muzzle of various thread pattern, and then each can has its own adaptor. In this way it has the same interface between all cans and barrels and I can swap all of my cans onto any rifle I want. (Just have to make sure I dont put my normal polonium onto a 30 cal barrel)

Thank you sir, I’ll look those up. There won’t be any switching of rifles, whatever I get will live on the Tikka, which has a threaded barrel so it will just screw on . Appreciate the feedback.

They're such a pain to re-sell that you're essentially not going to. They're definitely a buy-once-cry-once sort of deal. Though the likelihood of someone only owning one suppressor is very low. Good luck in your search, OP. I have spent a lot of very stupid money on gun related things but suppressors are my best choice.

The Aero Precision Lahar 30 would be a great multi-use can. Look for their upcoming Black Friday sale.

I like the single-shot trusts from Silencer Shop. They allow me to add family members to all of the cans.

I just went through the same process. I picked up the Rex Silentium MG7. You can get a .30 Cal version, but I picked up the can with a .264 bore size for my 6.5 Creedmoor and 260 Remington. Costs around 550 without the tax stamp. Hearing safe to my ears on my 6.5. Good tone to me.

I'm a bit of a can collector. I agree with folks who recommend a 30 cal if it isn't dedicated to that rifle. The Polonium is versatile, I like SilencerCo as well (I run the 36m in short mode on my competition AR - though some day I'll replace it with something lighter)), and have had a great experience with my Q Trash Panda (30 cal). I tend to value weight and small size over anything else - you're only going to get so "hearing safe" from supersonic rounds. I just ordered a Q Jumbo Shrimp which is a 6.5CM specific can (and was notified 30 minutes ago that it is in stock and they are sending it to my FFL), but I wouldn't recommend it for your first can unless you are certain that it is a dedicated one. Same thing for the Hydrogen S (another otter creek like the polonium) which is 6.5 specific (as well as a 30 cal offering iirc).

Flow through cans are nice for reducing backpressure in semis, but they are heavier and have zero advantage to bolt guns. I've got a 400 lb (slight exagerration, but only slight) LaRue Tranquillo on my LaRue 308 and it is great, specifically for a 5/8 MOA DMR AR-10. Otherwise I wouldn't touch it due to weight.

The Hydrogen-S is NOT a 6.5mm specific can. They make a 6.5mm version of it, but it was originally a .30 cal can…They offer both 7.62 & 6.5mm versions…I have both.

For suppressors, look way into the future. Its a lifetime purchase, and the super varmint wont be your last rifle. Thats why a flexible mount system is valuable.

Diligent defense Enticer L(steel) is my vote. Good quality and nothing quieter for sub $600 bucks.
“ and the super varmint won’t be your last rifle. “ At 76 ( 77 next month ), I’m not so sure about that. That, plus the fact that the SV meets all my range and possible hunting needs.

You will never buy “just 1 can”… I bought 3 originally, just to cover my bases, now I’m up to 13…

And like was stated, they are a lifetime purchase, for the most part. Don’t skimp on money, get what you want.

I would avoid anything made by Q or Sig. They are over overpriced hipster crap.

A great can to look at is the Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-S 7.62 (.30 cal). If you want to spend more on the highest quality out there, the new Thunderbeast Magnus-S is a .30 cal can, and it’s also incredible. 👍🏼

Touché!

There was a mil guy on here named Reubenski who, after trying various secondary retention adapters, went back and advocated good old direct thread. He’s long gone now, unfortunately. He wiped most of his posts off the site. Promotion-related, probably.

Anyway, I have six cans, all direct thread. However, I also have two cans in jail, each with different secondary retention schemes (Surefire & TBAC SR). Why? Because even through I know better, I just couldn’t help my stupid curious self 😢😂

Since thus far I have seemed to follow Reubenski’s path in all things firearms, I imagine I will again see his wisdom and continue to follow it. Despite myself.

Btw secondary retention is an additional lock to keep the can on. Can be tapered threads, left hand threads, a mechanical lock, etc. There’s two parts involved in the system: the rear of the can and the muzzle device.

Anyway, I don’t have a recce for a specific can in your price range, but since I have the same gun as you, any 5/8x24 threaded can will work. If you like a HUB adapted can, there’s direct thread HUB fittings in 5/8x24.

HUB is a set of thread & (I think) construction specifications. HUB suppressors have the ability for various muzzle-end adaptors to be screwed on (i.e. the rear of the can). They're not stuck forever with just one type of attachment method.

Liberty Precision Machine has some really nice offerings out there, their Mach L did extremely well in Pew Science testing recently. That can is titanium and a bit higher cost, but the Anthem series are identical except in stainless steel for better pricing & if you don't care too much about saving every possible ounce. Lots of good choices out there... I don't think you could go wrong with LPM or the Diligent Defense mentioned earlier for your Tikka platform.

Love em or hate em, I like the DeadAir line, I have 2 Sandman K. I also have a Huxworks. All are keymo mountable. As well as a DeadAir Ghost 45 for my handguns. And a dedicated 22lr suppressor, also a handgun.

Well then… Today is your lucky day… 🤣😂🤣

Slightly off topic, but I would also highly recommend you have them in a trust, not individual or single shot trusts even in most cases.

Your profile says you are from GA, I’d recommend getting a trust from NFA lawyer in Marietta if you still live in the state. Having a trust like they offer greatly increases your flexibility with class 3 items. Otherwise if you decide after the fact to move them to a proper trust, you have to pay the tax stamp again. Just my .02, ymmv.

By definition, I presume that a trust assumes that you either have someone else that would possibly use the item and/or have someone to pass it on to when you shuffle off this mortal coil. I have neither. When I either can no longer shoot or go belly up, my wife will sell everything I own in the way of firearms and associated gear.

Ay, there lies the rub…. Sorry couldnt resist adding some Hamlet…

Mostly accurate. Only caveat being if it’s in your name and not locked up such that she cannot get to it and you aren’t home/in the vehicle with it while you’re in a store regardless of intent to use it, she can be charged by the atf for possession.

I know this sounds bonkers, but it’s happened in the past and for 150 bucks and a call you wouldn’t have to worry about it.

Additionally as you say when you shuffle off this mortal coil she would in fact be in possession of it.

You are much more familiar with your situation than I am, I just wanted to pass on a bit of knowledge to allow you to make whatever decision you deem best.

Good luck on the can hunt, they are awesome and addictive.

Guys ( and gals, maybe? ), in a slightly separate but closely related vein, from whom or through whom did you purchase your suppressor(s)? Silencer Shop? Silencer Central? Capitol Armory? Others? Trying to select a vendor is just about as befuddling as the selection and red tape processes! Any feedback pro and con would be greatly appreciated.

I bought mine direct from the original manufacturer. They sent it to my dealer, and my dealer helped me with the paperwork.

Silencer Shop directly to my dealer, where SS handled all the paperwork and submittal. Or, directly from the manufacturer to my dealer, where I then registered it using the dealer's Silencer Shop portal and my Silencer Shop account for my Form 4 and paperwork.

In other words, I registered and submitted all of my Form 4's through Silencer Shop, but not all the can's were purchased through Silencer Shop. 👍🏼

I live just a few minutes away from each, Capitol armory all day every day. But if they don’t have it and silencer shop does that’ll still be fine.

I went the trust way for my first. Through SilencerShop. It was a quick and easy process even for a POG like me.

A question concerning use of a suppressor. My original plan would be to remove the suppressor after each range session in order to return the rifle to its case. I know I’ll need to rezero my range loads with the suppressor. Does removal and reattaching the suppressor mess up the zero? Because of this, do you guys leave the suppressor attached?

Not with good mounts.

I'm constantly removing my suppressors.

ATF form 5 "Application for Tax Exempt Transfer and Registration of Firearm" -to lawful heir. Heir would have to pass BGC as well, & photo/prints.
