Hope this is posted in the right place.
Need advice on steel targets to shoot at 100yds and 200yds, will be shooting 223, 300 blackout, 308, 510 whisper, 45 acp rifle at these targets as will my three daughters. I wont to use gongs for the feedback during shooting and they will be hung by chains from the target stands. My daughters have gotten bored shooting paper. Thanks for all the help

I bought 2 AR500 1/2" steel gongs from shootsteel.com a while back and they have worked great. I used 3/4" black pipe and a few T's and 90 deg elbows and made a portable stand that I shoot both .223 and .308 at a distance of both 100 and 200 yards. It works very well and have no issues with it all. It does get a bit heavy having to lug it out on the range but it works great. I'll try and set it up and get a few pictures of it up for you later today.

My only advice would be not to use chain, pretty sure 4 out of the 5 rds you mention will make short life out of chains. I suppose those connector links may work for a quick fix, but chain repair usually wont be done in the field, belting or strap will take a crap load of hits.

Here is the stand I cam up with, I do you use chain to connect to the targets, after thousands of rounds I've only hit the chain once. I keep spare parts in a tool box with me and can fix any broken part while at the range. When I bought the chain and was making the chain links, I made sure I made extra so I can have them ready if needed. The only parts I can't fix while out shooting are the stand itself and the pipe connectors.

The following video shows a system that I have been working on for a while and will be made available very soon. The idea behind this system is to use the ubiquitous T Post as a stand and protect all the hanging components with the plate. It is impossible to hit the bracket or chain and the Tpost is so tough I've never shot one in half.... knocked chunks out of them but they don't break. Even if you manage to shoot the post in half the result is a shorter target stand and at 5 bucks ea who cares.
