Excited to see what other say when they have hands on at shot. And how folks compare this to the new ZCO.
That was my understanding also. I'm not in a rush. Have others to use in the meantime.
Would like to see this next to a schmidt to compare clarity. I've owned a M5xi in the past and it was good glass but not schmidt good. Would like to see if the M7xi is better first hand. One minor gripe i see about the turrets is that the indicator is in a different plane then the turret hash marks. Coupled with very close hash marks of 15 mil turrets this makes it very difficult to see what mil you are on unless you are directly behind the scope and you put your head in the same spot every time. Other scopes suffer from this too though.
I’m pretty damn excited for this scope. I also have one on preorder with Scott at Liberty Optics and am afraid that I will have wished I placed an order for two. It checks all the boxes for my uses except I would have liked locking turrets but definitely not a deal breaker. I love the MSR2 reticle, redesigned controls and second rotation indicator. With one hand, with or without gloves, in low light or without even looking at the turret you will be able to feel when you hit the second rev much easier than with the M5Xi or even Gen 2 Razor style of indicators. As long as the glass proves to be an upgrade over the M5Xi 5-25, I believe the M7Xi 4-28 will make a nice splash in the pool of new, Tier 1 riflescopes.
This scope checks all the boxes for me. However, as I mentioned at the beginning of this thread so long as this model doesn't repeat the T series fiasco and the glass is as good or better as their military 16X they discontinued a few years back they will have a winner.
does anyone know if there is any shared parts and/or development with this scope and the Burris XTR3s?
I am sure it’s pointless to try and get any idea on IQ inside a convention hall but I’d be interested to hear about the turrets, finish, and overall size/appearance.
Size and appearance are on the compact size for the category. Turrets are similar to M5Xi, but felt a little better. The scope is pretty easy to get behind and image quality looked reasonable. All I can look at in the convention center is flat and that seemed fairly well controlled.
It is a promising design.

In an apples to apples comparison (I realize under less than ideal environmental conditions @shot 2019) how does this scope look to stack up against what can only be described as fluid & growing?

I think a better comparison would be against a ZCO, Minox ZP5, Kahles 525, S&B PM2. I would go out to say it's going to be a much better optic then the ones you mentioned. If not, it would be a huge fail. And I don't see that coming from Steiner as their new flagship Military optic.

No they don’t. But they are pretty stiff... you’d really need to knock one to get it to move inadvertently. Not even sure if it’s possible to do.
Awesome. That's what I was hoping. I never cared for locking turrets either. The uso b series locking elevation turret was the only one that I cared for.

I dunno what they are selling for in the us but I price checked in Europe and it was like $2700ish export price so a pretty damn good deal. Assuming there isn't any import taxes or anything.
I have no idea that's just what the prices minus vat worked out to be. Ive never imported any from the first batch a few months ago, I was too slow. Might be in customs yet anyhow lol?

I ordered two of the M7xi optics on pre-order. Things that did it for me over the zco are.. Less weight. Slightly More mag range. Liked the more FOV on the low end. Was $1,100 less then the ZCO. Comes with flip caps. Doesn't have locking turrets. Steiner has been around a long time with a really good track record on the military line.
The zco has more elevation built in. But with my 30moa rail on the AXMC it's going on, I'll still have 22 mils of come up. Way more then I need. Reticles are a wash for me. The ZCO focuses down to 25 but I don't need that anyway. So that wasn't a deciding factory.
For the price of being much less the the Kahles, Minox, and ZCO... I couldn't not get a few. Glass is the only thing I'm curious to see. Not expecting it to be a TT so we'll see where it falls in line.

I was part of the pre-order to and cost was a huge factor. that savings allowed me to jump up a theoretical tier of scope quality from Razor2 to Steiner.
Are you sure the ZCO has more elevation built in? The Steiner 5-25 says it only has 26 mils but that is turret limited. Actual internal elevation is more. ZCO published elevation is total internal elevation.
ZCO published is "total" internal elevation. When I got mine, it was set up out of the box for almost 38 mils of travel. I don't know if that was full travel because I didn't take it down as far as it could. Zero stop was in the way and I wan't that curious. 35 mils is what is indicated by the turrets.
When I have them in hand Ill let you know. I am going off of Posted numbers by the manufactures. It very well could be more on the m7xi. But I will never need that much, so wasn't a deciding factor.
I will check tonight when I get home. I can’t imagine the M7Xi will have 35+ mils, but the turrets do go up to 27 mils on the second rev (15 mil/rev), so it’s possible it’s more than what Steiner states.
I am running a 20moa base plus another 20moa in the mount. Assuming it only gives me 27mils, that gets me over 2200 yards with my GAP 4S... anything longer I’m going to need a bigger gun anyway lol.

Some real quick thoughts after getting some time to play with it:
- Turrets are EXCELLENT. Very fine adjustments but there is absolutely zero lash. They are tight so as to prevent inadvertent shifts but not difficult to manipulate when intended. Very tactile and audible, perfectly sized for quick engagement but not bulky. Second rev indicator is a cool feature as well.
- MSR2 reticle is badass. Obviously, this is mainly personal preference, and the MSR was always a popular reticle, but the new version is everything it’s cracked up to be. Very easy to look at, intuitive to use, and useful for hold-overs (just as the original was), but with improvements like floating center dot and .2 windage hashes. No tree could be a pitfall for some but this it’s just the right balance for me. Also, the illumination is basically flawlessly executed. This was always a coup for Steiner but combined with this reticle, it’s one of the best that I’ve seen.
- Glass is subjective etc. etc. however the scope is super easy to get behind. The eye box and FOV are huge and make for very quick target acquisition. No tunneling to speak of on low or high mag. Some CA (I am an absolute stickler when it comes to CA) can be induced with severe enough angles and high contrast situations but is not present with normal eye relief/light conditions. Edge to edge clarity and brightness are on par (if not better) than other scopes in this range. Exactly “what you would expect” when laying $2500+ for an optic.
- Not as compact as I thought. Never paid much attention to or compared dimensions with others, but I am not sure I would consider it “compact.” It’s smaller-ish compared to M5Xi/T5Xi, and maybe I just have a different idea of compact to begin with, but it’s still a big scope. Not heavy, not light, not huge, not small... just somewhere in the middle.
TL;DR - well worth the wait and $$$ savings compared to similar options. I am positive that as more people (i.e. Ilya) get hands on them and start putting out some actual reviews, people are going to notice that these offer exceptional value in this price range. I don’t have a ZCo or Tangent or whatever to directly compare with it, but from the brief time I’ve had with it, I could see it becoming a legit contender in the alpha scope realm.

Just browsing, did you get to compare it next to a 25X M5Xi? Is the glass better than the older gen models? Everything else I'm liking what little information is coming out about them.
I wouldn’t venture to guess technical differences in glass composition and/or coatings, but the optical platform is obviously considerably different than the M5Xi (5x vs. 7x mag range).
That being said, I always thought that the main disadvantage of the M5 was its glass. It’s not bad by any means but that design/product is a little dated at this point. I would put it on par with Razor Gen 2s, Kahles 6-24 (not 5-25), and similar. I’ve spent a fair amount of time behind all of these optics and am confident that most would share this same opinion.
The difference is immediately apparent looking through the M7Xi. Whether it’s because of the new optical chassis, the glass, coatings, etc. or a combination of factors, you can definitely tell that the new scope is in a different world as far as IQ goes. As I said before, this is largely subjective as everyone’s eyes see/react differently, however I’m also confident that people who have the opportunity to look through both will be able to tell a considerable difference.
When you get into this price range, I tend to believe that everything is a little “nit-picky,” and rightfully so for how much $$$ we shell out for these new optics. But so far, this M7Xi has not left anything to be desired as far as I’m concerned, especially with regards to the turrets and glass quality.
