So I'm looking for some "end user" feedback, these are right in my price range and I like Steiner stuff, so my application is open terrain, so wildlife spotting, some bird watching etc. I don't foresee an immediate hunting application, however that could be a "cross over' use down the road. Feedback on quality, setting the eye pieces, use with, and without glasses, and folks with diminishing eyesight like myself. Thanks.

These are very good quality for the price point. Yes, there's better glass, but will be commensurate with price increase too.
Very rugged and light for the size. Each eyepiece is individually adjusted to your eye as there is no focus knob to mess with. That's the big advantage (and a few will argue disadvantage) with the Steiner military marine lineup. Once you set your eyepiece you are gtg at all ranges and lets you scan near and far without constantly adjusting focus. I have old man eyes too and I set mine without glasses and use without glasses. You can set it up with, but I always find using glasses with binos awkward.
These and the 8x30's are never a bad buy.
Good luck!

I have two sets of Steiner 8x30R.

The fact I bought two sets is a clue.

Mine are the "sport" focus version, green rubber armor, mil spec, with reticle.

Glass snobs will with knowledge and experience look down on Steiner glass.

For me, unable to tell the shades of difference on really nice glass, Im happy with these.

One thing about the sport focus is that you really cant pass them to others as focus is set for your eyes.

Sometimes that sport focus may not be perfectly focused and I find myself wanting for a focus wheel once I find my subject.

but for scanning at varying distances they are fast allowing you to go object to object without need to focus.

I like em.

Just giving you something to consider.

How you intend to use them matters.

Add.

I have distance correction glasses.

I set my Steiners without glasses and the available adjustment works for me.

Bought them for work but more often use them on vacation looking at "shit" just scanning.

Scanning is where they shine.

Once you lock on that is where you may feel things are not as sharp as could be. You can mess with the individual diopters but by the time you do that your "shit" has moved.

They are rugged and in the case of the 8x30 compact. Another plus.

Thanks, a person could spend months comparing optics, I know, I've done it, LOL, for the price point, I'm pretty satisfied its money well spent & I'm getting value. Thanks for the comment, they are well received.

There is a set of 7x50 Military Marine in the optics section.

Needs a new rain cover and an ocular rubber. Easy parts to get from Steiner parts web site.

Seller was asking $150.

If still in there with amount of time that has passed maybe he will drop a quarter.

I can find the link if you cant.

The Steiner is a 7x50 Marine with large internal compass & vert / horizontal graduated reference reticle; they are really nice to see thru at dawn / dusk but too heavy to wear around the neck ! or even tote in a back pack; okay to rest on the dashboard or car seat until needed.

The Swarovski is the 8x30 CL with excellent glass; easy to carry.

Thats kind of why I prefer the 8x30 compactness.

There is something satisfying too about the shape of the Steiner bino body....

Its "hand filling".

I dont grip them with "dainty" finger tips like some smaller binos.

You can grasp Steiners in the palms of your hand and brace for bone support to steady them.

Its like grabbing a bulky roll turkey terrific sandwich with cranberry and stuffing and just enjoying the moment.

i have a pair of the 1042Rs and the glass is outstanding...doug at camera land had a few pairs of the 1042s on sale for $399 i would not even hesitate to buy another pair if something happened to mine.

Set of those in the PX recently too.

This place is the most expensive free thing I do.
