Rifle Scopes Steiner PX4I 1-4x24 or ???

I've been looking to get a LPVO for my AR build(5.56) and have almost settled on the PX4I above. I started out thinking I wanted a FFP but have decided to go SFP on this type scope for it's purpose(ease of describtion lets just say a fighting gun). I also thought about a 1-6 or 1-8, but have read more than once this scope makes up for the less magnification with great glass qualities. Long story short, any other last minute recommendations that are in this price range (vender specials, LE/Mil discount etc.) to consider vs the PX4I?
I know the Razor gen II E is kinda the std, but just a bit further than I wanted to spend on this.

The P4xi is a nice scope; they were REALLY nice when you could buy 'em for less than $500 new. I can't believe how much they have gone up in the last year or so.

When they were sub $500 they ruled that price range. Now the PST gen 2 is the better value.

Take a look at the Trijicon TR24r as another option. Lightweight, good glass, and a brilliantly bright fiber optic red triangle reticle. It has become my preferred choice in the 1-4X24 range for affordable scopes.

I don’t think he asked about the ”better value”. That’s a very biased judgement call vs objective performance criteria. Once he is in the price range he can handle it becomes which is better scope.
While prices have risen they are somewhat regularly available for $600, either used or on sale.

As a p4xi owner who got one in '17 or '18 for around $400, they are indeed awesome. But, I would've thought Steiner would've released a higher mag or upgraded p4xi by now.

In 2021 for $800... I'd buy a PST Gen2.

Honestly, if the dot is as bright as the Steiner's, the PST's reticle is better IMO. I'd much rather have mils I can actually use to hit stuff way out there over some BDC matched to one mystery bullet that's mostly to help with guessing.

That said, I bought the p4xi because it had the best 1x I had seen, and to me that's the most important thing with an LPVO, and I haven't looked through a PST to know if it's just as good..? If it isn't, then I guess the p4xi is worth it. Weird to say that years later with it doubling in price, but Glocks are going for ~$800 so whatever, crazy times.

If we're using sale prices, I've got 3 PST G2's brand new for $490 each. And that's only because the P4XI had gone from $450 to unobtanium and then resurfaced at $800. I really wanted the Steiner more at the time. Now comparing them side by side, the PST has more magnification, same dot brightness, slightly better 1x performance (tube disappears more) and cost less. Sounds like how I would define value.
I won't get into reticles, that's neither here nor there.

I've been looking at a few 1-4s for cmp competition and had originally been looking hard at the p4xi, but now not so much. Looks like what is available under 600 bucks are viper pst's if you can find one, burris mtac, sig tango 4, or a zeiss conquest v4. I already have a burris rt-6 on another rifle, so I am leaning towards an mtac, but the pst's look good as well.

They're not even close to being in the same league. Mtac's were okay a dozen years ago but they're outclassed by almost everything these days.

Ok, so stay away from the mtacs. Another option scratched then. Looks like I am down to trying to find a viper pst or a zeiss conquest v4.

I don't keep up on CMP rules but last I knew you were limited to 4.5x max magnification, so the PST is out. No personal experience but I know Athlon made a 1-4.5x specifically with high power in mind.

Edit: forgot the first gen PST 1-4x existed, on account of it being terrible. That may be what you were talking about but I would stay away from them also.

The Delta Stryker HD 1-6x and sometimes the Trijicon Credo HX LED Dot 1-6x can be found for around the P4Xi’s current-day price range.

Those are probably the two optics I’d think of first for “more than PST Gen II, less than Razor-E”.

I looked at those a while back, FFP, 1-8, USO, looks awesome... sadly, the reticles they offer are crap, I bet that's why they are being blown out.

Remember, ~98% of the time an LPVO is basically used like a red dot, so a busy reticle without a defined center dot isn't great.

Ive been doing some research on 1-4x24 scopes - have a m5xi 5-25 on my 20s, and have been contemplating a LVPO to throw on it for close range targeting, so naturally looked to Steiner. In any case, I came across the px4i you were looking at, brand new, for $640.00 with the Steiner throw lever and optics cloth.
