I've been considering a move up in scopes and I currently have two SS 5-20s. The only reason I'm considering a move is my eyes are getting progressively worse. I have about five to ten seconds to break the shot before my eyes start to lose focus. I don't care about turret or reticle differences etc. I can live with the SS in those regards. The Steiner T was not a consideration until I read here the pricing on refurbs.

So the question is about image quality. How does the Steiner stack up against the SS?

Image quality does not seem to be your issue. It sounds like the diopter is not set correctly. How did you set yours and are you sure it's good for your eyes?

Lenny, thanks for the suggestion. I have set the diopter on a bunch of scopes using both the sky and a white wall as background. However I do it I have a limited period of time where the image and reticle remain in focus. I don't think there is any fix for the vision problem but I was hoping that starting with a sharper image would give me a little more time.

I recently picked up a Steiner T5Xi 3-15x50 and have a refurb 5-25x56 coming in. I also have had a couple of SWFA 5-20X scopes and would give the edge to the T5Xi. Clarity and contrast is slightly better. The T5Xi is more inline with my March 3-24x42 than the SWFA scope.

Interesting read on the T5Xi, compared with S&B, Kahles and March

I wasn't considering the T5Xi at its street price of $2199 since there are better options in that price range, but definitely worth a shot at the refurb pricing. It is a step up for me from the SWFA scope.

The OpticThoughs article titled High End Tactical Part V: The Cruiseweights actually compares the T5Xi to Mark6, Razor GEN2, M5Xi, Tangent Theta, Kahles, ATACR, and Minox. Ilya actually recommends it as a lower cost alternative. I didn't get a refurb model but picked one up from the PX that already had the upgraded turrets, It was a comparative price to the refurbs.
