A guy I work with has one of these. He said it was his grandfather's rifle. He would like to know how much it is worth and if there is anyway to tell how old it is? I don't have any pictures of the rifle.

"He would like to know how much it is worth"
"He said it was his grandfather's rifle."

Priceless.
I hate the thought that my progeny will put a pricetag on the things I have bequeathed to them. If I had any inkling that they would be so crass, I would will it all to the SH members to haggle over in an essay contest.

From the 33rd edition of Blue Book of Gun Values:

Model 1915 Favorite-.22LR, .22WRF(special order option), .25, or .32 cal., redesign of original Steven's Favorite, action slightly heavier and stronger, blue takedown frame, walnut stock and forearm, other internal changes, similar outward appearance, marked "SVG" after 1920, offered as the No. 27 with full octagon barrel, the No. 17 with round barrel, and the No. 20 with smooth bore barrel, 4.5lbs. Mfg 1915-1940.

100% = $450
98% = $395
95% = $300
90% = $195
80% = $165
70% = $145
60% = $125

The fine folks at Rimfire Central may be able to help you better determine it's value. It appears to be more of a heirloom piece than a high value collector.

Thanks Bunsen, from what I understand he has no interest in selling it. He only wants the value of it for insurance purposes. He was more concerned with how old it was because it was his grandfather's rifle.

You are more than welcome. If you type "stevens 1915 favorite" into Google you will get a wealth of sights to explore for info. Very unique looking rifle, I may have to look into one myself. I already have two breech loaders; Shiloh Sharps #3 in .45-90cal. and a Browning Traditional Hunter Win 1885 in .45-70cal. However neither are as economical to shoot as a .22LR
