I had a hankering to go spend some money on a quality American product today. I'm really impressed with the machining, fit, finish, and overall build quality. I mounted a Type 2 RM06 on top as soon as I took it out of the bag. This gun makes my Springfield TRP seem like a rattletrap, (it's a great gun, just not built to the same standard). This is the 2020 model which is really a totally different gun than the 2019 model, they probably should've designated this something else. This is my first 2011 so I think I'll take it out tomorrow morning and put a thousand or so through it and see how it does.

Here is a comparison to my Glock 45 with a crusty old type 1 RMR on it.

Holsters for this bastard are as rare as hens teeth. I'll try to whip up a home job when I get some more time off.

I bet you can make it work in one of the Safariland GLS holsters. They lock on the trigger guard and are designed to be adjusted to fit multiple guns. And they are pretty cheap.

Oh, good luck. That’s way outside my skill set. Keep us posted with how the pistol works. I’ve got a friend that recently got one as well. Hope to get to shoot it soon. What is different on the 20 vs the 19 model?

Range report:
Sighted in and shot 2, 3 round groups at the corners of the sunglasses to confirm zero from a bench/bag with 124gr Gold Dot:

Shot 10x10 shot groups standing unsupported @ 25yds with 124gr Gold Dot scored 970/1000 (walked up and counted after every 10). I shanked the low shots in the 7 and 8 ring somewhere around the 80th-90th round:

Then stepped over to the 100yd range and hit the 66% IPSC 9/10 times also with 124gr Gold Dot. I spent the rest of the morning banging a 6" gong @25yds. Not very adventurous, but I worked all night.

Total rounds for the day:
150 124gr Gold Dot
200 147gr Lawman
200 135gr Blue Bullet reloads
50 115gr federal bulk

In total I fired 600 rounds and the gun ran 100%. This is my first time to really shoot a 2011 and I think I might be a convert. It was hard to miss even shooting strong hand only and support hand only. It's almost like cheating. I've owned and shot a lot of fine handguns from the top manufacturers and Smiths, but this is the first time I've been blown away by how well one shot.

During my competition days I owned several 2011 framed pistols from 3 inch for concealed carry to full blown open blasters. Dane at Southern Trapper will make you a quality leather holster that will rival the like of Milt Sparks, Mitch Rosen, etc. Kydex holsters are available from a number of manufacturers. If you want more coverage than the typical "tactical" holster, you could have a place like Black Point make an optics cut on one of their offerings.

Nice gun. How do you like the new grips? I loved their tree bark grips. Looks wise I am not a fan of the new grips but I hear people say good things about them.

It feels good. I think the old one looks better. I think the star on the grip would be more at home as a tattoo on Bam Margera's forearm than in a finely built gun, but form follows function. Extreme shooters will stipple it in the tree bark or DVC pattern if it bothers people bad enough.

Here's the prototype holster in progress. Still need to clean up the edges and dye it black. It is 7oz Hermann Oak lined with 2oz Hermann Oak with a black shark skin stiffener. The molding is Busch League, but I'm happy with it overall.

Bought my first 2011 2 years ago, STI DVC C. It's a rabbit hole .....you'll love the gun. Most any 1911 holster for a railed gun fit. Just notch out for the RMR. I run the same holsters I have always used for my 1911's.

Back at the range this morning to try out the new holster. Shot another 400 rounds this morning (300 reloads, 100 124gr Gold Dot). The pistol now has 1150 rounds through it without fail so I will start carrying it.

Shot the box drill (circled in black) and a bunch of failure drills and Eleanor drills on the chest and head. All shooting done at 15yds. Par time on the failure and Eleanor drills was 3 seconds from concealment and it was fairly easy to stay under that. I can't get enough of this gun. About that little guy off to the right, don't worry about that little guy.

No, sold it to recoup some funds. It was a tough call, but I knew it would net me the most, and would be the easiest to replace in terms of knowing what I was getting compared to building a custom. AIs are “boringly accurate,” so I knew buying another would get me the same reliability and accuracy as the one I had, without a long wait. I’ll have another eventually.

And I’m a Glock guy too, but also enjoy a nice 1911. This thing is sexy!

This Gen2 actually has plenty of grip for me, and it's not a cheese grater. I dont really like the way it looks, but it works. I have a kydex IWB on order, but I may make a leather one before it gets here.

Yeah true but a DVC-C is no more than a single stack commander 1911. Just a bigger handle. The part in my pants is the same. The double stack grip just rides more inboard into my skin.

135gr Blue Bullets flat nose over 3.8gr w231 cci primer, mixed brass. I haven't shot them from the bench, but I shot 100/100 points on a bullseye twice in a row standing at 25yds with them. Good enough for me. I'll bench them when I get out this week.

The original bullseye target I posted was shot with a mixed bag of everything listed. The few errant shots were my fault, not the gun or the ammo.

I have been shooting the .40 Blues for years in USPSA and Steel Challenge matches. They are great.

Hit the 2k round mark today. Somewhere around 16-1700 rounds I had a failure to extract a POS Winchester white box 115gr. Hasn't happened since so I'll chalk that one up to crappy ammo. One observation that I have made is the stainless barrel is all scratched up and kinda looks like shit now. The previous versions had a DLC barrel and the finish held up really well. Doesn't affect the function, but a DLC barrel sure would look a lot better.

All the scratches do, is show you where to put the lube. Shot a uspsa match today. I’ve been away from it for a long time been shooting PRS and long range, but I’ve been missing running a pistol hard. I was pretty rusty, but it was coming back by the end of the day. Ran the Edge today. Ran flawless.

These things are incredible. Not a fan of the new “star” grips over the old, but that’s just a purely cosmetic issue that is personal preference. If you’re looking for a good leather holster check out the southern trapper. Pricey, but quality stuff.

Did you send those g2 grips got it reduced and stippled?

One of them I did. STI put Gen1 DVC grips on my other guns. I actually think the Gen2 grip with Extreme Shooters treatment feels a tad smaller than the Gen1 grips with the same treatment. Switching from the stock Gen2 grips to the smaller grips and short curved triggers has helped my shooting a lot!!

Great looking guns to be sure. I just sent my new P Duo off to extreme shooters to have the tree bark grip service to it.

As a side note I run a Trijicon RMR on mine.. love the RMR’s, but hate that you have to take it off to replace the battery. Think I may try the delta point on the next one I pick up. How do you like it?

I appreciate the durability of the RMR, but the size of the window and removal of the sight for a battery change was a deal breaker for me. I've got just under 5k rounds combined through both of these guns with no real issues in regards to the DPPs, other than mounting screws coming loose, but it appears I've figured that out as well.

The size of the window and top loading battery compartment were the deciding factors for me.
