I'm not quite sure what has caused this but I am sure that it should not be normal. Once parallax is adjusted to max, it is very difficult to bring it back down to infinite and vice-versa. I can also hear a creaking noise coming from the internals of the scope.

Any thoughts?

Call the maker of the scope.

What brand of scope? It could be a "feature".

It's a Nikon Tactial, I'll be sending it back to them for warranty.

Re: Stiff Parallax adjustment

Hold on, the old Nikon 4-16 were that way, mine was very hard to adjust, but worked perfectly, if you send it in Nikon will replace it with a new Monarch Tactical which IMHO the glass is not as good, and has less verticle adjustment.

It may have been over tightened rings but I tightened to 30-33 in.lbs (spec was 35).

As I recall, this issue may have been present before I mounted the scope. Maybe the previous owner overtightened at one point but I did not notice any strong ring marks.

It's just a pain to get out of infinite.

Yes it is the Nikon Tactical 4-16 50 Nikoplex

That's what I was afraid of, having this older model replaced by the newer one with a lesser quality glass. So the gorilla grip required to turn the knob is normal for the older models. Looks like I will have to live with it. Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Stiff Parallax adjustment

The literature that came with the scope rings stated "no more than 35 inch pounds" So I figured ~30 would be good, too much I guess. I will re-torque to 15-20, thanks.

regarding the op, it sounds like this is the norm for the older Nikon Tactical scopes.

I read the red highlighted portion as the rings can handle that much torque, but the scope?

Maybe not so much.

I think you would be wise to back the torque off to a maximum of 20 inch/lbs.
