Stiller bolt damage

I had a primer pin hole leak and put a very small divot in the bolt face near the firing pin. The bolt is usable but leaves a tiny blister on the edge of the primer. My concern is that this could cause another primer leak and do severe damage to the rifle. This is a MK 13 MOD 7 in 300 win mag. I have another bolt ordered but would like to know if any one has experience having a bolt face repaired , if it is even possible. Thanks for any advice.

LRI can do it.
It WILL change head space. Unless they bush it and cut it back to the exact same depth, which is what I would request I
IF they can so that the bolts all headspace identical.

Yep WW primers. First time after using thousands on thousands them for 50+ years. Hate to guess how many . Just trying them with the shortage of Federal GMM MATCH.

They're known for that kind of failure. Blowing out in the corner i mean. Weird since no other brand of primer ever does that, they fail in the most unsupported area around the pin strike.

There are a pretty crafty shop, and they have a very significant presence here on the site. I would imagine they’ll clean it blast it, and put a dab of weld or silver solder in there, then then just turn the face. It should look good as new. The turnaround time should be pretty good too.

I would assume he means any raised parts from the "hole"..... Personally it seems like a non issue, other than it is annoying to see.

Can't tell the brass manufacturer but a win primer in Fed brass is the recipe for blow outs for me.

I did shoot 2 or 3 rounds after i looked at it and was getting some primer flow into the pocket. I am afraid it could lead to another blow out and cause sevear damage this time. I have ordered a new bolt but want to repair this one as is original to the gun.

I understand what you have, just have never really known of such serious concerns after it occurs. Has anything changed in your load specs recently that may be causing an over pressure?

In the mid-2000's when Win primers were notorious for pinholes I have a ring of pinholes in both my M1 Garand and LRB M14 bolts. Cosmetic really, although still annoying.

But, just how hot are your reloads if primers are flattening and flowing into the divots?

Loads are military dup loads for MK 13 MOD 7 ammo. Top of the line by the book but what this rifle is designed for. Fired Primers match military FC ammo. No excessive flatening and no flow. There is a big difference between 308 , 30-06 and 300 win mag for the MK 13 sniper rifle.

Apparently you weren't around for the great Remington 7-1/2 pinhole failures.
Remington paid to repair or replace a lot of bolts.

Probably cosmetic but if you have concerns you’re probably never going to be comfortable with that bolt again as it is. If that is the case, have it bushed. Simple, inexpensive and you can go small pin if you wish.

I have some ARs that were pitted so badly form 24.5gr Varget and 80gr SMKs it looked like it was routed out. That said, 5.56 is no 300WM.

I remember hearing about the Remington deal but wasn’t using any 7 1/2s so wasn’t involved. Have used win for about 60 years ( i know OLD FART ) didnt load anything larger than 30-06 until i won the MK 13 MOD 7 that got me into the 300WM. Hell I didn’t have this much troubles loading .50 BMG and i shot 50k rounds of that. Live and learn.
