I've noticed my bolt is rubbing in front of the right lug. Its shining from rubbing and it's about 3/4 as long as the lug (not the best pic) but I don't see any galling. Is this something to be concerned about? What could be causing it? The top lug has a little bit of a mark but nothing near the bottom.

Caught two coolers full of fish one day last week and tore all the hide off my fingers getting hooks out. Was worth it though. Didn't think about that being the bolt nose recess area, makes sense.

The bolt nose shouldn't be rubbing the counterbore.

I'm not saying that's what the rub mark is from though.

If it shoots great all the time then I'd probably say(without looking at it in person) dont worry about it.
It it is inconsistently accurate, the bolt nose rubbing may be why.

Hard to tell much from one pic of one part.

I'm not afraid to say it. Something is not right. Nothing dangerous but this has all the hallmarks of someone that didn't know what they are doing installing a barrel. That bolt nose should not be touching anything. If it is, you have one mighty bad case of offset bolt nose relief and I assume chamber. Are the primer strikes centered? To me this means wrecked barrel and waste of labor money. If I paid for that I wouldn't be pleased.

Something that could cause it to rub that hard in front of the lugs is if you blew a shell up and expanded the bolt face and cause it to not fit the bolt nose relief any longer. You would remember that though.

Now looking at the wear behind the lugs on the bolt body. This has me stumped. What does the other side look like? If it shows similar wear I might guess someone attempted to lap the lugs and got lapping compound too far back and scratched up the bolt body or maybe the rifle is run is a really dirty environment.

Yep it looks like your bolt nose is rubbing in the recess. Definitely not good for accuracy. Looks like a case of poor machining. I have single point cut several bolt recess in the past, but anymore I use Dave kiffs recess reamers. Much much easier and faster and really no way to get off center when using one. Looks to me like yours is off center, especially if just the one side is rubbing. I would also have to assume your chamber is the same way.
The wear on the bolt below the lug doesn't concern me in the least. Looks like a good fit in fact. Keep a little lube on the bolt and you should be good to go. All my BAT actions have similar wear marks, and they flat ass shoot!! Lee
