F T/R Competition Stiller or Defiance

So many choices in custom actions, ask 10 people and you will get 10 answers to which is best. I own both a Stiller Viper and a Defiance Rebel actions. Both are very fine actions and are up to most jobs. Defiance's lead time is pretty short, I believe they are turning out a action from order to delivery in about 90 days. Stiller is another thing all together but does depend on which action you order from them. I had a Stiller Viper on order for 29 months and finally just gave up, as luck would have it a complete rifle became available just like the one I had on order and was brand new with only 20 shots fired. Luck like that doesn't happen very often though.

Killshot's recommendation of a Bat is a very good one. Bat makes an excellent action and I wish I owned one. Bats can be bought from a couple of sources with "NO" wait time as they are in stock at a few places like Bruno's.

I also feel that anyone thinking about a new project, especially for F-Class either Open or F/TR should take a hard look at the Panda F-Class model. Another very good or better action and I do own one of those.

This can be a tough thing to decide. I wish you luck in your search...

Looking at these for an F/tr action. Is one better than the other for what it will be used for? Going single shot so action strength should be a non issue.

Either will work as both are good actions. I don't have either but friends i shoot with do and are happy with them. I have two FTR rifles and one has a BAT and the newer rig was built using a Stolle Panda F class action and both of those actions are top notch. I like the fact that both have integral rails and lugs, it makes for a stiffer action. I went with the Panda on the new rig because weight was an issue and the Panda is aluminum with steel inserts but if weight wasn't a factor it would have been hard not to get another BAT, they are extremely nice and smooth as silk. Also as stated above, both of these actions are usually in stock at Bruno's etc. compared to having to wait on other actions. Just a thought.

I've already bought a stock with a remington footprint so I need to stay with that. Stiller actually has some in stock and Defiance quoted me 6 months. I do like the fact that I can get everything I want with the deviant, coned bolt, smaller firing pin...etc.

I have 2 BATs, one Stiller Predator and one Borden.

Hard to tell wich is best. But the Bat needs a good grease in the bolts, otherwise it will galling if you have a hard bolt close, while the Stiller and Borden are not a problem.
