I put together an AR with a Stiller Precision Predator XT lower that I am very pleased with, but am wondering how the Seekins SP 223 Gen 2 lower stacks up against the Stiller.

Anyone used both?

John

They are both of exceptionally high quality and backed by folks who you can count on if, God forbid, something goes awry and you need CS in a rush.

That said, having used both, I prefer the Seekins thanks to the Ambi-bolt release, overall ergos/fit/finish, elimination of all the @#$%ing roll pins and relocation/captivation of the takedown pin spring/detent, and the appearance of the Seekins lower which just seems "cleaner" to me than the Stiller lowers. I will say that I think that the Stiller lowers are likely a bit more "bombproof" in terms of their overall design/construction/materials, but that's from purely my observation...I don't think that in 99.9% of the uses where either lower/rifle/carbine will be fielded will make an ounce of difference in their ability to withstand heavy use/abuse over many years of enjoyment.

Again...I absolutely don't think you can go wrong with either one for a high quality product, but the edge goes to Seekins for me.

Thanks for the response. Any compatibility issues with the Seekins and Vltor MUR upper?

John

I have not had the opportunity to test ANY Vltor upper with a Seekins lower so I can't comment on any compatibility issues, however, I don't foresee it being an issue as I have seen Seekins lower run with all manner of different uppers and haven't noted any incompatible models thus far.

Drop Glen a PM or shoot the Seekins team an e-mail and inquire about that issue if that's a direction you are thinking of going...they are generally spot on top of comms! I've never waited more than 48hrs MAX for a response from Glen or one of his folks in the business...they are truly a living testament to what embodies CUSTOMER service!! ;)

The only issue I've seen with this combo is the poor fit of the seekins left side bolt catch into the milled slot in the Vltor upper. The MUR-1A was designed with enough clearance to accommodate a standard bolt catch. That said, this is a minor problem if not entirely aesthetic. Even though there was a bunch of grinding in this area, there was - surprisingly - no detrimental effect on the weapon's operation. For me, it was worth it to go but a seekins upper just for the purpose of concentricity. You could always remedy this by simply replacing Seekins' billet bolt catch with a standard catch as well.

Here's an example.... Not a Seekins lower, but an N4 with the std catch replaced with a Seekins. After about 6 months i had cleared all Cerakote from behind the catch on the upper receiver...
