Stock for Tikka CTR

What stocks are available for a Tikka CTR?

Stocky's has a Bell & Carlson for $395. McMillan makes one as well approaching $899.

I think the one on the rifle is a bit light and difficult for a guy my size to get behind on a shooting mat.

Any other options would be well received. Thanks.

Yeah, the KRG is actually quite a solid looking stock with some viable options. I like the McMillan as well. I'll post pics when I swap out from factory stock.

Which McMillan were you looking at. I contacted them and here is the response:

The KRG would be about a half pound lighter, which is nice. Haven't weighed the stock that came with the rifle but it seems very light.

I have both, McM A3-5 and the KRG Bravo. Ergonomics of both are almost the same, McM feels sturdy and more refined, the Bravo is lighter. The McM is better stock w/o any doubt at twice of the price of the Bravo but IMHO is NOT twice better.

I have a German Gunstock "Ranger", aluminum bedding, laminate construction, lightest option out there 2.42lbs and the accuracy of a chassis.

I have an XLR on my 6.5CM Tikka that I really like. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

Also, not sure if this is the case with the other stocks, but you won't be able to use your Tikka mags with the XLR.

I will eventually be getting a McMillan or Manners for my CTR. Tried real hard to like the KRG, but I don't want to go to AICS mags due to the cost of the mags, the OAL limitations, the possibility of having to modify the action, and the long throat on Tikka barrels forcing you to load really long OAL to get close to the lands.

If I was switching barrels and stocks at the same time, AICS wouldn't be a problem. I'd get the new barrel reamed to more standard dimensions with normal freebore and then AICS would be fine. It's also fine with calibers that don't push the limit of OAL in AICS. So if I end up waiting to do a stock and barrel upgrade at the same time, I would consider KRG. But probably still stick with Manners or McMillan since they're heavier and feel much better overall for someone like me who does 90% of their shooting from a bench or mat.

The Varmint has a heavier profile barrel than the CTR.

You’ll have to open the inlet up mate. The CTR profile is somewhere between a rem varmint and light palma (slightly shorter shank than the palma). I have heard that the CDI DBM can drop straight into the CTR inlet but have never tried it so can’t confirm.

So you're saying the CTR has a heavier profile barrel than the varmint?

I have KRG and McMillan, they handle very differently, both are great stocks for Tikka action.

The Tikka varmint profile and the Remington varmint profile are two different profiles. The Tikka varmint is heavier than the CTR profile and Rem varmint

I have a GRS. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but I've found it to be the most comfortable stock I've ever owned.
I had a Bravo, Roedale, and a Thomson (like a McMillan ripoff) and I keep going back to the GRS.

What is the surface of the KRG Bravo (edited for spelling) and X-Ray like. I have a full length bedded Hogue which is kind fo grippy on a rifle and I like it except it the surface can sometimes pull on your jacket or other clothing. Is the KRG material smooth on the surface or what's it like?

its smooth. its polymer so you can stipple it to be as rough as you want in certain areas. i plan to stipple the grip area then use some sandpaper to smooth it out to get it a little more grip that factory but not tearing up my hands or gloves.

I was just checking the FAQ at KRG. They offer military, veterans, and police discounts. Nice. Wonder if Mcree offers them. I know McMillan does.

Exactly that, The KRG takes AICS magazines and is not compatible with the CTR magazine.
You had better read and make sure which ever stock/chassis you are researching is compatible with CTR magazines if that's what you plan on using.
There are very few of them that will take the CTR magazines and most of them are not a chassis type stocks.
The few you will find are composite type stocks.
You mentioned the Bell and Carlson for $395 that is the Target/Competition stock that is made to use the CTR mag and factory bottom metal.
I have one and it is on the heavy side at 3.5 pounds but the factory hardware fits in it like a glove.
There are lighter and more expensive options out there so it's just whatever your willing to spend.

Yes I emailed them and they responded that you need AICS mags. Bummer. Looks like Bell & Carlson, Manners, McRee, and McMillan are the options so far. Thanks for the tip.

The GRS Berserk uses the CTR mag and bottom metal I believe. I think my next gun will sit in a Berserk.... I went with a Bravo on my Tikka though and have no regrets. Love it.

I second GRS stocks. They look a little funky at first but they are ergonomic wonders and super comfortable to shoot. The Berserk is awesome because it's not too insanely priced and doesn't require bedding. I have a Berserk CTR stock and Hunter laminate stocks as well. All are perfect and bedding the laminate stocks is pretty straightforward with Tikkas. Did them myself and they are half MOA shooters.

When you factory in buying the new mag and I ended up buying the toolest height adjustment piece. My Bravo ended up being the same price more or less as the GRS. Things I had overlooked when I ordered the Bravo.

Your right about that. In both of My Tikkas it was literally drop/snap in.

On the GRS+Tikka the bolt will clear the cheek piece when it's at its lowest setting. Given that it's a push-button it's simple to put it up or down.

Tikka mags are proprietary. I'm not aware that anyone would make a chassis to accept them - if Tikka patents would even allow it.
Oops. Not true.

Seems like I read someplace that Tikka was going to sell their chassis as a standalone item... but then why not just get a TAC A1 and be done with it...

One other thing: I have a TAC A1 which uses the same mags as your CTR. If there is one thing I really don't like about the rifle, it's the magazines. If you put any pressure on the bottom front of the magazine, the bolt is going to hang going back into battery. My understanding is it's a pretty normal thing. Your experience may vary.

No big deal. Personally, I am surprised at how some manufacturers leave out the fact that they make a stock for the rifle but that you must use AICS mags or something other than the original mags or that information is remotely placed somewhere. I read a number of posts suggesting there are feed problems with other mags than the factory mags. AICS is quality but factory mags would be best in my opinion.
