While waiting on a Manners stock ordered for the same rifle, I decided to give the Tikka T3 Sporter factory stock a makeover. I had seen all I wanted of the orange laminate.

Here are a couple of "before" pics...

Removed some wood from around the magwell and tang, stippled the grip areas, converted to CDI bottom metal (for AICS mags), and added some paint...

Didn't turn out exactly as planned. Not sure what to think of it at this point. No plans to cancel the Manners stock order...

Thanks for the compliments.

Why the Manners? Other then the color what did you not like about the sporter stock?

Diego

Manners seems to have a strong reputation, and they offer a Tikka-specific drop-in version of their T4:

Tikka T3 / Sako Q22 | Manners Composite Stocks

I just didn't warm up the the factory stock. No offense intended to those that like it.

Was it difficult to install the AICS bottom metal? How much material had to be taken out?

It wasn't too difficult. Bottom metal had to be seated a little deeper into the stock (compared to factory plastic), and internal sides of magwell were made wider to accommodate the AICS mags. I think CDI will provide the service (for a fee) for anyone not comfortable doing it on their own.

Looks great!

I loved the way mine fit me but wasn't crazy about orange, either and I really didn't like the reach involved for the magazine. You seem to have cured those problems! I ordered a McMillan A5, but I'm starting to think I should have went with Manners, as I've been waiting for six months.

By the way, what caliber is yours?

Thank you.

I was told ~18 weeks for the Manners. Rifle shown is a 20" 260.

What picatinny scope rail did you go with?

I'm currently using an aluminum Talley 20-moa base that was cut off at the front of the receiver.

I also have a steel 20-moa base from Tikka Performance, but it required higher rings so as the scope objective would clear the rail. Since the base is melonited, cutting it shorter isn't an option.

A higher scope isn't really an issue when using a stock with an adjustable cheekpiece, but since the Manners stock will not be adjustable, I wanted to keep the scope as low as possible. Hope the mild recoil of the 260 doesn't pose any problems using the aluminum base.

I have a 24" 260 sporter, don't mind the loud colored stock. Actually kinda refreshing compared to my other od g and fde guns. The rifle hammers in the .3 range and does 8" groups at 1120 in somme wind. Factory stock fits me perfect and seems effortless to shoot good. Having said all that, I wish it was fiberglass. I converted mine to take la mags so i could get 142 smk within 20 thou of rifling, that oal will not fit in an AI mag or an alpha type 2. Ur stock looks bitchin now, good job. What surface prep did u do? What paint? What speed are u getting with 20"? I was on the fence for a while over what length to get, decided since Il is not supressor friendly no point in getting a shorty. Your rifle looks more like a trg now. Does the manners have a bedded-in recoil lug like the Mcm?

6brs- I light-sanded the original finish, then applied Krylon and Rustoleum paints, along with a Krylon clear matte topcoat... Until I can find the preferred powders (such as H4350 and Varget), I'll keep shooting the 123gr Amax at ~2725 fps using AR-Comp, which has been quite accurate out to 600 yards so far. This particular Amax seems to tolerate the jump routinely... I don't know if Manners does anything special, but an installed steel lug is an option on their Tikka stocks.

Sounds good. Did u opt for the steel lug installed? I run 44.5 gr of h4350 and 142smk, gets me 2830 with singe digit SD. H4831sc works good as does regular h4831 with heavies. I picked up some Imr4350, it replaced loads in a 6.5 cm and 243 fast twist that used h4350. Trying to ease the burden on what h4350 i have left.

Looks really good, you should just send that old Sporter stock to TN when your new one comes in and I'll take care of it for you, lol! I really love the way some of the aftermarket stocks and chassis look but I just can't justify the cost. I've tried to find a take off factory tactical stock a few times with no luck.

Looks Fantastic. The only bad thing about it, is that its wood. I would worry about scratching and dinging it, and of course how it flex/swells in poor enviroments.

Forget the manners dude. Tikka's scream for one stock and that is the WC3. They are pure sexy.

EDIT: Anyone have an idea what a new sporter take off would sell for? would be nice to help defer cost of a WC3. The Sports seems like a great stock if you don't need a folder or plan to trash the rifle (I like to break stuff).
