Just purchased a Savage 10 Precision Carbine. I want to change out the stock. I purchased a Bell and Carlson thinking it was the correct stock, but realized it wasn't setup for DBM.

I'm looking for options...

Anyone who could inlet the Bell and Carlson I have to retain my DBM? If so, how much?

Other stock options? I've look at what HS Precision has. Not sure I love the look of any of them. Would love a chassis setup. But pricey!!

Anyone setup something nice that you can post pics?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

I just bought an HS precision for my Savage build. I went with the M-24 vertical grip model. I had trouble putting the trigger guard in (savage was on the high side of thier tolerances I guess). I sent it back to HS precision and they squared me away. So far customer service has been top knotch. I though about going the B&C route, but I couldn't find anyone to do the inletting for a reasonable price. But just a heads up Choate does make stocks which accomodate the dbm, but they are not composite. Good luck in your search.

Or you could remove your eyes with a rusty spoon. I would recommend not doing business with SSS. Or at least do some research first.

I went McMillan. Manners is also an excellent option. Both will inlet for whatever DBM you want, including factory.

Here is my A5

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

Okay, I searched Sharpshooters supply on this forum! That was NO help whatsoever. It came back with 200 posts/8 pages and I couldn't find any of them related to this company.

I did a search for them on BBB and they had 7 complaints against them with only 3 being closed.

Could someone please without going into a monologue give me the reasons I shouldn't use them to inlet a stock? Or point me to a post that has details on why they have a bad name?

Thanks

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

The decision as to whether or not to do business with SSS is simply based on how much time you have on your hands and how patient you are.
If you want to order something today, pay for it today, be told it will be ready in 4 weeks, not hear anything for 8 weeks, call and be told it will ship out in 3 days, not hear anything for 3 weeks, call and be told there was some inexplainable issue and it will ship tomorrow, not hear anything for 2 weeks..... do you get the picture yet?

if you dont mind waiting months longer than you are originally told and dont mind having to call and nag some; then SSS does make a decent product.

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

Scary!! Just seems odd that SSS is the only company that will do the inletting for my Savage. Sure other companies seem to offer if you use their bottom metal! I don't want to buy someone's bottom metal when I have one from the factor.

If anyone knows of a reputable smith that will mill out this stock to my factory bottom metal, please let me know.

Thanks

Manners will do factory inletting on their stocks... McMillan also will...stockade (Kevin Rayhill) will on most any stock

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

You want to get the best bang for your buck, go with the choate tactial stock.Your action will slip right in. They have two type, one for the top load, and one for the bottom..magizine fed. I have the same rifle, after alot of research, I chose the choate and couldn't be more happier !!! Just my 2cents....Good luck.

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

Kevin Rayhill will inlet it if you buy one of his DBM's, I bought one and am patiently awaiting it along with my Stockade ROllover Thumbhole. Maybe if you call he can inlet it for you to use another DBM, its always worth a shot.

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it, but here it is:

Send that B&C stock to Jeff at CDI, pony up the money for his dbm. He will inlet the stock for 60 bucks and you can start running AI mags.

Might as well do it now, cause your just gonna do it later.

The Savage DBM is a good, reliable system, but limited to four rounds and replacement mags are pricey.

Re: Stock options for Savage 10 Precision Carbine???

disclaimer: total noobie here apologizing for the next couple dumb questions.

almost same problem as op, have model 11, didn't actually buy the stock yet though

when you guys refer to inletting, does that mean modifying the straight line magazine stock to take a dbm ?

jeff at cdi was brought up, found the web site, i'm guessing if one ordered the bottom metal and magazine, then the stock would just have to be modified to take the new bottom metal and magazine? so if this is all correct then basically if you can't find the stock you want in dbm, just get the one you like, add this bottom metal and magazine and with a little work to the stock your good to go?

again sorry for all the questions, but thought they might help the op as well as maybe some other like me who happen to find this thread in the same situation

thanks
