Stock Options

Picked up a used Remington 700, 308 Win. 26" barrel, all factory in great shape. These Remington's are new to me.
It has the factory black synthetic stock and I want to upgrade it. It seems too flexible especially with a bipod.
I've been checking the used section here, but what are my options?
Google gives me stocks from $75 to $1000+, I'm a little lost with all these options.

I don't want to have to do any bedding jobs. (I don't trust myself enough.) Are there "drop-in" options or am I kidding myself?
If you guys can point me in the right direction of easy install options it would help a lot.

Price is not my biggest concern. I don't mind paying for quality products if I have too, but I'd rather keep it on the lower side of the $75-$1000+ for this rifle since it is used.

Plus correct me if I'm wrong, but putting a used 700 into a $1200 stock would be like putting a honda engine in a corvette chassis. (I don't know much about cars either.)

I have the adjustable Bell & Carlson on my R700 and it has worked out very well for me. i can make it fit me and bedding was not required? I'm going to be it now just cause I want to see if it will get better? I'm shooting 1 moa to 1/2 moa and want to see if it will go 1/2 all the time? One more thing to rule out before it is all on me? Lol

I'm running a Bell & Carlson medalist a2 on one of my 700s and so far I like it, especially for the price.

I also would choose one of the Bell and Carlson Medalist stocks, for the price you can't beat them.

I'm in the same position as the OP. I'm looking for a new stock for my 700 sps-t aac-sd. yesterday I said B&C, but after some more research I think I am going to try and find a HS precision take off from a 5R.

+1 for the Manners with the chassis system. I have both the Manners w/chassis and a B&C a2, I prefer the Manners. The B&C stocks aren't bad, but the construction and attention to detail on the Manners is second to none. If you got the scratch go with the Manners.

Just got a manners in yesterday, even though it doesn't have a mini-chassis the stock looks great and feels even better. I got the mcs t5a and I absolutely love it. I do plan on bedding it though.

I got a B&C Tactical Medalist for my Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Very good fit solid fit. Good finish. The nice high comb gives me a better cheeck weld with my 50mm scope. I also like that the Tactical Medalist isn't hollow and has a solid buttstock. Very good purchase as far as I'm concerned.

My SPS tactical came in a 700P take off stock . Now it sits in a MCS-T with mini-chassis .

OK so I've made the decision to go with an adjustable stock for a better fit. Here are my options so far with price points.

B&C Style 5 Varmint/Tactical
$420

Manners T5A (no mini-chassis)
$615

Manners T5A with mini-chassis
$1000

AICS 2.0 (I like the folding feature to reduce size while traveling)
$1050

AX AICS (I haven't seen any reviews on these but the rail customization is a great feature for me.)
$1350

I know this is not a complete list but I've eliminated a few.
H-S stocks were removed because the price was around the same as the Manners T5A with out mini-chassis.
The XLR was taken off my list because of personal preference. I've never used one but the pistol grip appears to be a little high for my liking.
The Cadex Strike 30 was taking off for its $2300 price point and it really doesn't offer more features that I would need than the AX offers.

I know the B&C probably doesn't belong in the same list with the others, but I left it because of it's low price.

Let me know what you guys think.

my buddy has the B&C varmit/tac and it made me want one. granted i have not been behind any of the others, that said it does not feel like a $400 stock, with 3/4" LOP adjustment, and the cheek peice is very nice as well. but my opinion is prob not worth much here yet. i that being said i will spend my money on one for my next stock, i just got a good deal on a medalist non varmit, i just could not pass up

If u have the money, get the Manners with chassis. Top of the line quality and better resale if you decide you don't like it. I have a B&C on my 300 and it is a great stock, but its always smart to buy the best you can afford.

Interesting system. Thanks for adding to my confusion.
I'm not sure I will add it to my list at $1260. The AX is only $90 more and I don't know how they will compare.

I've also considered the McRee's. You do get some nice features for $800 but a manners for ~$600 might have it beat.

Both seem to be good options.

A few question about the mini-chassis:
So I don't need to bed the rifle with the mini-chassis? (thought I read somewhere you needed too bed it)
Could I get the a manners without the mini-chassis and just "drop-it-in" later when I decide to upgrade?

I have the AX and have been extremely happy with it. Yes it's a lot, but it's built like a brick shit house and just "feels" right to me. I did have to get taller rings to get the bell of the scope above the shroud that goes around the barrel, but frankly it was still worth it.

Manner's as many have suggested was a close second. I just dig the AX.

I'm not entirely sure on your questions but 99% of the time I've heard the chassis does not need to be bedded and that other 1% i think people said you can if you want.

Also, I'm not sure if it could be dropped in by yourself but I would imagine that if you send it back to manners they will more than likely beable to do that for you.

If possible get behind some of your candidates in the prone position to see which is most comfortable. A stock I love may not be the beat for you and only by holding position for some time can you tell the difference.

Manners folders are $1255 with the mini-chassis. Which put its on par with the AX.

All those on your list would be great and hands down an improvement over what came with your rifle. I went through this process last month when I bought a new 700 5R. I was leaning toward a Manners T4A with mini-chassis but didn't care to wait months to get it so I purchased an AICS 2.0 instead. Ordered from Mile High Shooting, I received it a week later. Love the AICS.....no regrets and bedding it is not required!

Based on what you said earlier, that you wanted to be on the lower end of the price range, out of the stocks you have listed, I would get the T5A without the chassis. You just have to decide how important a DBM is to you and your style of shooting. Just like I did and as you have already discovered, if you want a DBM then you are looking at close to $1000 or more.

In early December I got a B&C A5 for my R700 SPS-Varmint in .308. It required a little inletting and my friend who is a gunsmith glass bedded it. It is a 0.5"-0.75" shooter with FGMM and my hand loads of 42.0gr RL15/168gr SMK and 168gr AMAXs.

I'm very pleased with the stock and recommend it highly.

Thanks for the advise. I talked to Manners and they said they would actually upgrade the stock at a later time for the mini chassis.
This would allow me to keep the price down a little now and upgrade later.

That is great......in your case then, I would get the T5A minus the mini chassis for now. MCS is a great company with top notch customer service. I will own a T4A in the future (for another build).
