Many, many ways to skin that cat. If people can be stuffed into a small hole an make it across a check point, you sure as hell can get ammo across. Biggest trick is not outing yourself, when being questioned.

Components such as cases and bullets are even easier to pack and transport. And the technical specs and measurements can easily be shared digitally so folks with shop equipment can turn out unlimited quantities of additional brass.

Any straight-walled caliber can be charged using black powder if they manage to put a stranglehold on smokeless propellant. There are several recipes out there for making "brown" or "cocoa" powder, which is sulfurless BP. They leave very little fouling behind, only a haze of bluish smoke upon firing, and generates equal power as the most energetic sporting black powders and BP substitutes. Basically KNO3 and high quality willow or birch charcoal. Percentage ratios of the two components vary depending on what kind of performance you are trying to get. This was the propellant used in all field artillery and high grade sporting guns in the final years of the 1880's before everybody transitioned to nitrocellulose. The main trick in making safe and reliable BP is corning / grading them into 1-F to 4-F grains for different uses. A good pressing rig and appropriately sized screens is a necessity here.

I have a tool that basically cuts out the priming mix from novelty caps, crimps them into aluminum from beer cans and turn them into quite useful and reliable No.10 size primers for cap and ball revolvers and I am sure there are many ways to turn out centerfire primers in this fashion too. Priming mixture might be a little risky though, but if there is a need, there will be a way.

The 50 cal cans usually stay put. 30s go to the range, one for each caliber of range fodder, several for different weights of 9mm, subsonics, etc. When they are emptied, they are filled. 50s stack with more stability.

I ran out of cans long ago. The majority of my ammo is still packaged as it came, stacked on 2x4s to keep it off the floor. It’s almost always very dry here so I haven’t had any problems.

No one really makes a good storage system for ammo that I have found.

Those dry storage boxes that comes for free whenever you order bulk packs of ammo from Cabelas are quite sturdy, water resistant and fairly out-of-the-way options for keeping anything in. I had a shit ton of them when I ordered bulk, gave some away and sold some and still got a lot of em'. There are currently two of them right next to my desk right now that are full of canisters of Hodgdon Triple Se7en and Trail Boss. Other ones stacked against the wall on the opposite side of the room that contain various calibers of loaded rounds. Thank heaven for these economical and reliable plastic totes.
