Sidearms & Scatterguns Streamlight TLR-1 Switch Question

So I just bought a streamlight TLR-1. I got a great deal on it because the box was "Damaged". Here's a pic of the box damage, for your amusement:

Anyway, I figured out how to put the batteries in. It made me feel like less of a man because it took genuine effort, but I got it to work anyway.
My question is, now that I got the batteries in it, I can't turn it off. I assumed I was doing something wrong, but then I remembered seeing a post on here a while ago about the problems with the switch on this light. Is that what happens when the switch goes out on it? You can't turn it off?
How can I tell if that's what's wrong with mine or not? I plan on calling Streamlight tomorrow, but I figured I'd ask here first, since it's likely that you guys know more about their lights than they do.

I'm assuming that one of those switch positions is supposed to be the "off" position?

In hind sight, this may have made more sense in the "Equipment" category. I thought it belonged here, because it's a light for a side-arm, but that may have been incorrect...

I would call streamlight, they should take care of the problem. I just bought one from midway. It works great but I think the switch is the weak link. I too had to go back to the instruction to get the #$^& thing open.

I have one of these on my G32, G19 and P226, I haven't had this problem...yet.

I tried to call Streamlight today. I got a message saying that they're closed for the "easter break", whatever that is.
I was really more wondering if my light is actually broken, or if I'm just not operating it correctly. I know I need to call them if it's broken But, with as confusing as the battery directions are, it's really possible that I think I'm turning the light off, and I'm not.
Is what my light is doing, a failure? Or is it supposed to work like that and I'm just dumb?

Just happen to have one in front of me to look at.
Your bottom pic would be the on position. It should click and stay that way. Your top pic is a temporary on position and the switch should spring back to the off (middle pic) position.

You do have a problem.

Not to revive an old thread, but I thought I should bring closure to this.
I called Streamlight and spoke to a technician about my problem. She said it was defective and that because I had just bought the light, I should return it to where I had purchased it.
I called the place I bought it from, but I had the light for more than the 30 days return window, so they wouldn't accept the return. I was moving and didn't play with the light when it arrived, I just added it to my pile of boxes and forgot about it for a while, so that's my own fault.
I called Streamlight back and told them that I couldn't return the light. They said it didn't matter because the light was covered for life anyway. They gave me an address and told me to ship it to them and they'd repair it.
It only took a couple of weeks for the light to return back to me. It functions fine now and was returned in the original packaging, just as I had sent it. Now that I know what a working one feels like, I can tell the difference. The old switch didn't have any noticeable detents when you rotated it up or down. The new switch almost 'clicks' into place in each of the different settings. And, more importantly, the new switch allows me to turn the light off. A feature that I'm really fond of in a light.
Streamlight's customer service was flawless and quick. I didn't spend forever on hold, I talked to a competent person who diagnosed my problem, they were quick to fix the light and return it to me, and they honored their warranty. I won't hesitate to buy another one of their products.

Like anything made nowadays with mass production these days there is always a bad one or two.

That being said I love mine and use it regularly for work. I would buy it again in a heartbeat

I own three and never had that problem
