When removing a carbon ring, do you do so through a bore guide? Or would the bore guide impede your ability to get at the carbon ring?

I will point muzzle down and push a wet patch or 2 to the end of the chamber and leave them there. Sometimes I will drip in a few more drops of solvent. After soaking for a while I will remove the patches then insert the bore guide and clean as usual.
