So if I am at a match and all my targets are in front of me (regardless of compass direction) only split apart by several degrees. if I do not capture the target direction in the kestrel. Why would I want to face the back of the kestrel towards the wind? Wouldn't I always want the kestrel directly perpendicular to the direction of fire? That way I can adjust knowing exactly how much wind (in a full value) to adjust for? Just curious if I am completely missing something.

My understanding is you want to compas calibrated(spin three times with appropriate screen up), get target direction(for coriolis etc), then taking the wind reading with the back of the kestrel towards the wind. The back towards the wind is just how AB wrote the software. Wind direction is factored in your DOPE by AB.
