Any experience out there with the 308/Cyclone and Trail Boss sub-sonic loadings? Yes, I understand the instructions say no subsonic ammunition and only factory FMJ is recommended. Just curious if someone has been there and done that with any success.

Re: SUB-SONIC / CYCLONE AND TRAIL BOSS LOADINGS ?

Take a look in the reloading section, there are tons of recipe's for sub loads. Me personally I like Hornady 180gr RN behind 10.6gr of TB. They stabilize well out of 20" barrel.

I would suggest that when you do development, leave the suppressor off and use a chrony to get your velocity. Also work down with your loads. Once you get your velocity where you want it, shoot some 25yd targets and look for keyholes. If you are GTG, slap on the suppressor and have fun.

Re: SUB-SONIC / CYCLONE AND TRAIL BOSS LOADINGS ?

25 yards is just to make sure your load is not keyholing (tumbling) through the target. If you have keyholing on the target you will incur a baffle strike on the can. That just sucks. That is why I always work my load and check before attaching my can.

That being said, I have shot my subs out to 200 yards at paper, but you have to remember; your pushing a 180gr bullet at 1050 FPS to keep the SB from cracking. It is not going to do much on the practical side. It is pretty much a "Hey look at me I'm cool" toy. It does get attention at the range with folks that aren't use to hearing suppressed rifles.

+1 on that..be very careful with this process and take your time. The worst thing is going to be a baffle strike. That can be very costly.

Re: SUB-SONIC / CYCLONE AND TRAIL BOSS LOADINGS ?

There is a practical use for the sub-sonics. Hog eradicating using my AR47 762x39 with 220gr RN and 200gr SP and even more with my 300 Fire Ball. with 220gr RN and 200gr SP. Using suppressed I have got 3 hogs our of 1 group and taking my time. It is quite exzilerating standing in the middle of a group in the dark.

That is a lot of up for 300yds! I have not tried 300yds with my bolt gun yet. My ARs have took most of my time, but now looking towards a .458 Socom Bolt Gun.

Re: SUB-SONIC / CYCLONE AND TRAIL BOSS LOADINGS ?

I loaded 10gr TB with 168gr bullet for a friend. he wanted the bullets upside down to help prevent the bullet from key holing. I have seen other post on loading the bullet point down.

Re: SUB-SONIC / CYCLONE AND TRAIL BOSS LOADINGS ?

The only reason for loading backwards is mismatch of bullet for the twist. As for as keyholing, it is nice for them to come out the cavity that way after yawing. It does a lot of damage, I have some pics, you would be surprized.
