Re: subsonic loads for deer hunting.
Done it with several calibers. It's very useful for herd culling or removing animals per the request of a township that doesn't want its more "sensitive" residents disturbed by gunfire.
Headshots at close ranges are the most effective way to do this, I've seen the best result with heavy, wide meplat bullets as they tend to drill deep penetrating holes.
A suppressed, subsonic 45/70 would be an awesome caliber to do it with, as well as 458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster, etc.
Turn those 185's backwards in the 308 case and launch them that way, they penetrate better and will have higher stability margins.
It's also very useful for removing animals like hogs where they tend to scatter at the first shot. Using a very heavy bullet like a 500gr pill in 45cal it's a great way to drop several before the rest figure out something is going on.
