Such thing as a rifle that just will not shoot ?

45.0 Varget over 175 smk with them seated as long as you can.

Would shoot 1/2" holes in my AAC-SD.

I have had good results with a similar load.

44 gr Varget
175 smk
Lapua brass
Remington 9 1/2 primer
OAL is 2.815 IIRC

I tried working up to 45 grains but got some pressure signs at 44.5 and serious pressure signs at 45, and accuracy started falling off above 44 so I stayed there. It's a pretty consistent 5 shot 1/2 moa load in my aac-sd. Sometimes better, if I can control my twitching. I'm not a good bench shooter :)

One comment related to the OP's issue - I have found my accuracy got much better after about 100 rounds. Not sure if that was me getting used to the rifle, the barrel getting broken in, or the remains of the burr on the crown cleaning itself up by shooting it off. Probably a little of everything. I really wonder if the optic is the problem, but if swapping that out doesn't work he may have a screwed up crown or just a junk barrel. I think I got lucky and scored a pretty good one.

I also used a Bell & Carlson stock, but I skim bedded mine. Not sure if that would make much of a difference though.

Im heading out to the range later today. Im hoping to get some better results. Its supposed to be warm, mid to upper 80s so hopefully that doesn't affect my shooting too much. I removed the muzzle brake, im removing the bipod and shooting from bags and pillows, bought some New brass and worked up all new loads, and im shooting some black hills match factory ammo that ive been saving. Lets hope for the best.

Graham was asking for specifics as far as the rifle setup so we can help you out. It could be poor bedding or barrel/stock contact, loose base, bad scope, could have a long throat from the factory and you just haven't found the load it likes, or you could have a bad barrel. I have owned a few rifles that wont shoot, but it could usually be tracked to one of the above problems. If you had someone else shoot it and you were able to duplicate its poor performance, you ruled one very important factor out.

Just what Kirk R said. There may be something else going on with it. I would have a few people shoot it with some good match ammo and see if they have the same results and if so have a good competent smith look at it.

aac-sd .308
Bell and Carlson a2
timney 510
pws prc brake
weaver 20 moa rail
falcon menace 4x-14

the stock is torqued to 55ft/lbs, rings are installed right, trigger feels crisp etc etc.

BTDT, got the T-shirt. Toss that fucker on Gunbroker and just get the FN and be done with it. I had to go through three Remingtons (AAC-SD, 5R 20", and XCR Tactical) to finally get disgusted with them. Now I have a TIGHT shooting FN and no headaches.

I once had a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm mag. I tried everything, factory ammo, several different bullets and powders, nothing worked. I decided that I was spending too much time on it, so I sold it and cut my losses.

100 yards means nothing, back up to at least 300. My AAC shot 1/2 MOA, than took it hunting it rusted inside and out, never shot again! Ended up doing a full custom build off it, shot better than 1/2 MOA, sold it to build a 300 WM. If it doesn't work, fix it.
