On the desktop when you run an "open"ish operating system it's pretty easy to clamp down on ads, but Google and Apple both make it very hard on "mobile" devices as that is where they have $$$ signs in their eyes about all this "revenue" from hijacking people's viewing to sell ads to companies that only actually make potential customers hate them more.... Of course on the desktop it's about to get harder as Google pushes for their next Manifest V3 under the guise of "security" but actually wanting to block you from blocking ads, and since Chrome and it's derivatives make up a huge part of the browser market (even Microsoft is throwing in the white flag), things should get more interesting soon.
