+1^^^

I've got 2 Compact Kimbers, both officer frame(3/4" shorter grip) & 4" bull bbl. VERY concealable, but on the heavy side.

CDP or any other aluminum frame is MUCH lighter, and much easier to carry all day. 4" bbl is more accurate than 3" bbl, but also longer/heavier.

FWIW, I'd take a .45 over a .40 any day. If I need penetration, I'll take 9mm or .38 Super over .40. I'm not poo-pooing the round, but I'd either take higher capacity or heavier/bigger hole. .40S&W doesn't fill a need for me, but it may for you.

I'd also stay away from S&W for a 1911. I'm sure many have great one's, but all the one's I've seen continue to jam(and MY Kimbers don't). S&W hasn't figured out the external extractor, which is another deviation away from Browning's design.....but so is the 4" bbl, the bull bbl, beavertails, skeleton hammers, 3" bbls, extended safeties, and the list goes on. Some say the only true 1911 is a pre 1911A1....

STI/SVI, Springfield, Dan Wesson, most Kimbers, Para, Ruger, Sig, LB/WC/EB/NH, are all GTG

I love my M&P40 full size, and am considering the compact model for the wife.

Apex trigger upgrades, trijicon tritium sights, and Critical Defense 165's make this pistol a real player........
