I just had a package shipped to me by Fedex and it arrived damaged. I talked to Fedex and thay said I have to give the package back to them to review and then they will decide what they will do. I have to fill out a claim form and then they can pick it up at a scheduled time and after that it will take 5-7 days. Im sure this is SOP but sounds like a big pain. I was just wanting to get any thoughts you may have on how to deal with this based on real time experience with dealing with Fedex customer service.

Is it FedEx ground or air, they are different companies and do things differently. FedEx ground resists paying damage claims, and when they do pay for a lost or damaged package it comes out of the driver's pay. Take a lot of pictures of the package, the package labeling and contents that are damaged, once they take the package from you, you have no proof of the condition, packaging or damage. They will not settle the claim with you, they will settle with the shipper because they paid for the insurance on the package. The shipper should refund your money and deal with FedEx to get their money back. If you paid via PayPal file a claim with them to get your money back.

I have had to deal with damaged firearm claims with almost every delivery service and FedEx ground is by far the worst to deal with, UPS and FedEx air are okay to deal with, so is USPS but they are really slow in paying claims.

Thanks for the info. I have never used Fedex when shipping b/c of stories I have heard. The damaged item is a mountain bike and its not too bad, I could use it ok but am just pissed that a very expensive bike in very good condition has now been anally abused by Fedex. So at this point it dosent sound like its worth the head ache.
