New to the long range gun. Tikka t3x Tac a1 24in 6.5 on the way and I’ve set a personal goal of making a one mile shot in one year, so the question is what scope? Getting ready for retirement, so I would like to keep the Cost as low as possible but still achieve the goal.

I also shoot a Tikka T3x Tac A1 in 6.5 CM and am currently using a Bushnell DMR Pro with G3 reticle. I like the scope and there are many other scopes as good or better. The long range game today uses Mil vrs MOA . To get to 1 mile you need about 25 MRAD elevation, The DMR has 30 MRAD total built in. The rail on the Tikka has no elevation built in. You can switch out the rail or get scope mounts with the elevation built in. I suggest at least a 20 MOA mount.

So that people aren't coming in making suggestions for something you absolutely can't afford, what is eurmax top dollar that you can spend?

My Burris XTR II might do the job but I'm not sure about the resolution / Clarity in a mile... Don't have anything to shoot that far... perhaps somebody that's used it a mile can chip in.

My S&B pm-2 will absolutely do it but it's a $3,500 scope... might be outside your budget.

Vortex razor would probably be a decent choice

As others have asked, What is your budget?

Whatever you buy, I’d go with something with a minimum of 20x on the top end. This ensures that when on 14-16x or so your sight picture is still fairly bright and the target easily discernible at a mile or similar distances.

My Schmidt Bender PSR 5-25x56 sight picture starts to darken at around 21x but at 17-18x where I’ve shot at a mile is nice and bright.

Some possible options I would consider: NF ATACR 5-25, 7-35, Vortex Razor 4.5-27 (solid glass, can be had for ~$1500-1700 in the PX), Leupold Mk5 5-25, Schmidt Bender 5-25 (can be had for $2200 or so in the PX). People say good things about Athlon scopes but I’ve never used them. Even an old 16x leupold Mark 4 would work. Has tons of internal adjustment and paired with a 20 MOA base would get you there.

Don’t cheap out on the glass if ELR is going to be your space.
