All,

I am new to F-T/R so please excuse what is probably a very elementary question. I understand that most people shooting F-T/R use a sandbag or squeeze bag or some other kind of rear bag to support the rear of the rifle. Does anyone actually just use their support hand without a bag? Thank you.

Dave

Re: Support for Rear of Rifle

you could probably give it a try if your bipod can get really low, but i would not recommend it with a 308....unless you wear a glove...either way, you are disadvantaging yourself...sandbags are cheap....I make mine out of old blue jeans...

Re: Support for Rear of Rifle

With the size of the F-Class target, no one uses just their support hand, it is simply not stable enough for repeatable vertical.

Most guys I know run a bunny-ear bag of some sort, they generally run ~$75-$150 ish. I (and a few others) run a simple rear sandbag (old lead shot pellet bag filled with river sand) cost $1-$2. It just depends on preference. Generally speaking, cost isn't the reason guys choose one style over the other.

In Tac shooting I use a sock filled with plastic beads. You can buy them at a Crafts store, they work well in F/TR also. I just bought a couple of Red Tac bags from a fellow on here to give a try. If they don't work out I'll have the old standby.

I used to use a sock filled with sand for rear support, but I decided to get a Protektor Deluxe rear bag finally. No more spilled sand everywhere while trying to clean my rifle... =/
