Suppressor brake adapter timing question

If a brake adapter for a suppressor (thunderbeast) is at differing alignments but under a suppressor, is there any impact shift? The gas is still being contained at the same rate within the suppressor. just wondering how much difference it makes if any.

I reserve the right to be wrong, but I am virtually certain that it doesn't make any difference. In fact, IIRC, TBAC direct thread Ultra series cans basically have a brake/mount semi-permanently installed, and that would obviously preclude any sort of timing of the brake relative to the action.

It doesn’t hurt anything. I’ve done it on barrels that would always be suppressed, like a .300 Blackout SBR under a long handguard.

Edit- reading your question again, yes it can cause a shift, but any change of a brake or suppressor can cause a shift. Switch brands of brake, and you can have a slight shift. It doesn’t cause a problem though, zero it and rock on.

It 100% will make a difference.. I tested rotating mine within 3 different cans and guess what, poi shifted with each adjustment to the brake. My cans are timed to the brake so as the brake rotates, the 12 o'clock zero position of my can moves

The brake acts as a first/sacrificial baffle. If you zero using the brake in the same place, using the same can, I do not believe you will see any difference in POI. How often do you need to adjust the brake?

If using different muzzle devices, perhaps direct thread would work better for that purpose.

You should perhaps clarify the question a bit. I shoot AI's and TBAcs with a heavier barrel contour. I usually shim my brakes, but don't sweat the details (so if it's not perfect, I'd rather use less shims than more and a 180dg rotation-I liek it cinched up).. If you shoot 100% suppressed (I do), the brake position is cosmetic, the can always screws onto (clocks) the same position. Tat said, on my TBac cans and barrels, there is negligible POI shift (can on or off). TBac cans are light and have good tolerances which aid in repeatability, a heavier can on a lighter or CF barrel would likely yield different results. tbAC Zak or Ray are the better source.

I spoke with Zak on the phone over a year ago and he said it wouldn't matter once the can is over the brake. (CB mount), but if Ray or Zak can chime in, I may have misinterpreted (Like Impact whom I called yesterday- Tate, TBAC picks up the damn phone. I'm FAR more willing to shell out $$$ to a company that actually answers the damn phone and can answer questions).

My POI shifts when I take the suppressor off the brake and run it as just a brake. For .223, .308, 6.5CM there are all noticeable POI shifts for me.

+ it's not a particularly effective brake IMO, so there is little reason to run it without the suppressor (given that it's tiny, the laws of physics would prevent it from being more effective than a much larger brake with larger/greater number of baffles)

that is expected. suppressor is weight and changes harmonics

Yes I shoot suppressed exclusively so i wondered if the brake position under the can was cosmetic mostly. AI rifle where the barrel is going from an AX to an AT. I did rezero , but just wondered about brake orientation under a suppressor acting as a baffle.

If you move the brake to a different orientation then put the can on, it will shift your poi.
