Suppressors Suppressor for a .308 & 6.5CM AIAW

Looking for advice. I have never owned a suppressor so I know almost nothing about them.
Tell me what you recommend based on the following criteria:
1. Needs to be as short and light as possible while still dampening the noise enough so that I don't need hearing protection (needs to accomplish this for both cartridges.)*
2. Must be a qd suppressor that attaches to a muzzle brake.
3. Cost is not that much of an issue but let's do our best to keep the total cost (brake +suppressor+tax stamp) under, or at least close to, $1,000. (If this is unrealistic or impossible then ignore this criteria)

Please tell me what you would buy and why.

If you want to stay light, you'll have to go with a titanium can. You'll have to work to keep everything under $1000, but it might be possible. A top contender like a TBAC is out of the budget. Have you thought about what you're willing to sacrifice first? Length, weight, QD? My recommendation is a YHM Titanium Phantom QD. You'll probably be around $1150-1200 with your stamp and 2 brakes.

Give up the QD and you'll save $75 on a Phantom.
If you're willing to have a heavier can, a SilencerCo Specwar 762 would be a good option. This route and you can have everything for $1000.

TBAC 30BA, hands down, the best for that and should be about $1200 with 2 BA brakes. Look no further!!!

If you shoot any rifle can without hearing protection you will have hearing damage every time you go to the range. I would go with one from Allen Eng. or TBAC. Buy once cry once philosophy.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. These seem like good candidates. I like the idea of titanium construction and I think I should spend a little extra $ for that.
Has anyone used the AI suppressor? Is it made by another company for AI or is it made in-house?

Your best options in that price range would be the TBAC 30BA and the SAS Arbiter and/or SAS Resistor. I'd throw AWC's THOR PSR cans in there but there closer to $1450 give or take $50 or so. You'll be down in the mid-130 db range with the TBAC and the Arbiter, high 130s with the Resistor, and do not need to worry about ear pro. They are easily hearing safe.

Since you're in Denver you have some good local shops that have these cans in stock that you can take a looksie at. Mile High Shooting in Erie, CO stocks the SAS line up and Trigger Time Gun Club up in Longmont stocks the TBACs. As of last week, both shops had the .338 versions of both the TBAC and the SAS line up as well to give you an idea of size and weight difference. If you think you can afford the jump in price those bad boys would be significantly quieter with minimal increase in length and weight.

If both of your barrels are threaded in the same pitch you might want to think about thread on cans. They'd save you a little weight, albeit very minimal, just by omitting the brake. TBAC & SAS are still good options in that case as would AAC's 300-TM. Machine Gun Tours in Arvada has a 300-TM in stock.

He's referring to OSHA sound threshold charts that indicate decibel levels when the human ear begins to sustain damage. He is also conveniently omitting the duration aspect of such levels before said damage could begin to occur. For example, the 85 decibels he mentions being damaging would equate to the sound level your average garbage disposal would emit. Clearly, there's nothing to worry about unless you put your head in the sink and let it run continuously for 20 minutes - a point at which OHSA says you're likely to suffer hearing damage. At 130 DBs you'd have to somehow find a way to make the sound of a gunshot go from a fraction of a second to 2+ seconds in duration to sustain damage per our all-knowing federal government. OSHA obviously doesn't take into account the redirection of sound within the context of shooting with a suppressor and what effect it has on sound thresholds as it relates to the human ear, effectively rendering these particular threshold measurements moot all together.

Basically, he wanted to share with us some mindless f'ing babble believing no one else here has at least a high school education. Fun times right?

My statement was basic, I believe you might be the one who wants to be act like everyone else is dumb. Shooting rifles suppressed is not good for your ears without protection is what I'm saying and not trying to go all college educated like your implying. Do as you want its a free country. I've been in manufacturing most of my life and know that hearing loss sucks, that is my only education on the ears. Hopefully someone who is an audiologist will add their input on the subject.

Your statement was basic....basically wrong and given without any context whatsoever making it very, very misleading. Might having experience shooting rifles suppressed be more relevant than "spending most of your life in manufacturing" to the topic of discussion? Again, being around machinery that emits high decibels is only damaging who you include DURATION of exposure to such sound levels. That is the point.

Ask myself why Barry Dueck is wearing ear pro when shooting - of all things - a suppressed 300 BLK? Gee, let me think. Could it be because they are AT A F'ING range? Obviously, one can't merely assume everyone that walks in is going to be shooting a suppressed rifle. Hence, the need for ear pro. Ground breaking shit I'm sure.

Hilmisson, sorry your thread is getting derailed. I've been shooting suppressed guns since 2001 and believe its in your best interest to always wear hearing protection when shooting suppressed. It makes rifles much more enjoyable to shoot, just pick a good can from a manufacturer you will believe will be around in the years to come to fix any issues that may come about.
Here is a list of what I shoot in a suppressed center fire rifle round, I don't shoot any subsonic anymore except .22 lr and pistol rounds.

I don't usually use cans on more than 1 rifle. I have a little experience shooting rifle rounds in cans and always protect my ears. I shoot up to 300 Win Mag but just started shooting it suppressed this weekend. I also wear protection when shooting my rimfire and pistol round cans.

For something with a brake for use between both calibers I'd recommend the 30BA from Thunderbeast. Well built, good customer service, effective brake design, and great promotion/support of our particular niche of the shooting community. If you can't find a 30BA in stock anywhere you can always go with the newer version, the 30BC (I just don't have any personal experience with it in that form and I'm not sure anyone has received them yet)

You should still wear some hearing protection as it will still take a toll on your hearing. If you're hunting or something with the can, you can get by with the occasional shot without hearing protection, but it's not something I would make a habit of. *I'll get off my soap box now*
